As the sun began to set on Bass Valley, a scuffle erupted on the outskirts of the giant orcs' settlement.
The air outside Bass Valley crackled with the sound of whistling, a signal for the giant beast race to enter the war. This time, however, it was not a normal battle.
In the past, the giant beasts would fight in both human and beast form, maximizing their advantages through cooperation. But on this day, all those fighting on the battlefield were beasts, for Betan Day had not yet passed.
Among the ferocious beasts were old and young alike, all eager to fight. But one beast stood out from the rest, a lion two circles smaller than the others and even thinner than most beasts.
A black-backed wolf with scars dug its paw into the heart of a sand ghost, then turned its head to roar at the skinny lion.
The pure-blooded giant orc who had turned into a beast could not communicate in human language, but anyone who understood animal language would have known that he had only yelled one word: "Get out!"
The skinny lion is Ben, a rank that has been training with Kevin for a long time. He is a ferocious beast, but he is also intelligent and cunning.
He entered the secret passage under the Rift Valley with the large army of Wujin Xuangong, but lost contact with the large army that night.
Ben is far from adulthood, and he is a little heartless on weekdays. He has experienced many things, but he has not been tempered by them. He can pretend to be an ordinary beast when he becomes a beast, but he is still a wild animal at heart.
Ben was not one to be easily influenced. He was his own person, with his own thoughts and desires. He was a survivor, and he would do whatever it took to stay alive.
That day, Ben was exhausted. He had been marching for days, picking up the residents of several towns near San Antis. He was so tired that when it was his turn to rest, he simply crouched down in a corner and fell asleep.
Ben slept soundly, without a dream to trouble him. When he awoke, his bones ached and his eyes were heavy. He opened them and looked around, but the people who had been with him in the secret path were gone.
Ben was perplexed. He had been following their footsteps, but now they were nowhere to be found. He searched the area, but all he could find were faint footprints and traces.
He stood up and stretched, trying to shake off the cobwebs. He was alone, and he didn't know where the others had gone. He could only hope that they had found a safe place to hide.
He followed them all the way to the Golden Lion Country, but then they were lost among more overlapping footsteps.
Ben was frustrated. He had no idea where the people had gone, or why they had left him behind.
As Ben drove south, he came across his tribe outside Bass Valley. He witnessed a pregnant leopard-shaped giant orc being swept into the sand nest by a sand ghost.
The orc's body quickly turned to fine gravel, which rained down from the sky and piled up in a heap.
With one dead and two lives lost, the rest of the tribe had fled.
Ben went mad in an instant. He charged into battle without a word.
The young giant orc's body was brimming with the blood of the former patriarch. Though he was still young and thin, he was agile and flexible, and possessed the fearless spirit of his father Mai.
When practicing with Kevin in the legion base camp, Kevin had mentioned the limitations of animal-shaped combat.
However, the young giant orc was equipped with a set of arrows in his mouth that could also be operated in animal shape. This came in handy when he was fighting the sand ghosts.
Despite his skills, the young giant orc was still chased away by a group of adult giant beastmen. Shaw, the black-backed wolf, was the one who yelled the most.
"Who told you to come here?! Go back! Run as far as you can!" Shaw roared unceremoniously in animal language. The sand ghosts were rushing over.
The young giant orc's eyes flashed with determination.
The giant orcs are a race of warriors, known for their ferocity and aggression. Even their words of concern can be blunt and harsh.
When Ben was injured in battle, Shaw, the black-backed wolf, tried to urge him to retreat. But Ben refused, insisting that he could still fight.
"I won't get out!" bellowed in animal language, his voice like thunder.
"I killed no less than you, and it is the wounded who should retreat!" The words were harsh, but they were also spoken with conviction.
"You!!!" Shaw was so angry that he almost died.
The black-backed wolf, was the one who had tried to urge Ben to retreat. He had seen Ben's father, Mai, die in battle, and he did not want to see Ben suffer the same fate. But Ben would not listen.
"I am Mai's son!" Ban roared. "I will not retreat!"
Giant Eagle Dan, who was also fighting alongside Ben, shared Shaw's concerns. But instead of scolding Ben, Dan took action. He turned his head and used his huge wings to flip Ben backwards several times.
"You're too reckless!" Dan roared.
Ben rose to his feet in anger, his eyes blazing with defiance. "This is fighting! Didn't you all say that the giant beast race is born to be the bravest fighters? Why should you drive me away?!"
He turned his head and bit the metal buckle, firing an arrow from his mouth to kill the two sand ghosts that were pouncing on Shaw.
He shouted defiantly, "I won't go!"
Shaw stared at Ben with bloodshot wolf eyes, his teeth gritted in frustration. "As long as there are adult behemoths around, you will never be needed to go to the battlefield!"
Ban's eyes narrowed. "I am Mai's son!" he roared. "I am a warrior! I will fight!"
The reality was not as optimistic as they had hoped. The adult giant beastmen fought valiantly, but they could not completely stop the mighty sand ghosts.
The giant beastmen in beast form had no advantage in conflict with the sand ghosts. Their bites and dissections required close contact with the enemy, so when they cut out the sand ghost's heart, they also had to sacrifice a claw.
This was a typical "kill one thousand enemies, harm eight hundred" style of play. The person who rushed to the front was essentially using their flesh and blood to build a wall for those behind them.
This wall was made up of strong men, brave women, old people who were still strong, and even Ben, who was far from an adult.
No matter who they were, no matter how much they yelled and whistled at each other, no one truly chose to back down.
