Getting lost

Cole was a man who always had everything in life, wealth, charm, beauty, and innate talent for everything he did related to business. When he first began working in his father's company it took him about a few weeks before he conquered many clients and stood out with the best men in the industry. They recognized his talent and suggested his father give him a major role.

Cole had it all, job speaking, except the woman of his dreams, the woman he hadn't stopped thinking of since the accident.

He had never dated before, focusing his energy and his mind on his job career since he graduated. Because that was the only thing he could do right, the only thing that made his father in the slightest proud of him. Then as he continued to work he found in working something he hadn't found yet. Pleasure and confidence. Whenever he accomplished a task - whether it was big or small - he felt good. As an innate boost of confidence and further motivation to do more. To push himself over his limits.

When Cole and Brendon came back home Cole slid out of the fridge take away food and began preparing the table so all three of them could have dinner.

Claire was reading one of her precious books and only when she heard Brendon walking inside their room did she lift her chin and smile.

He kissed her cheek and sat next to her.

"Again those books?"

She nodded.

Claire was reading for the tenth time her favorite book: 'Heart' by Edmondo De Amicis.

Some may wonder why she would read the same book over and over when the pile of unread books was waiting for her on the bedside table.

The answer was simple because she knew the ending. For some particular reason knowing exactly the facts by heart made her feel less anxious and soothed the anxiety which followed her like a shadow.

"Cole said dinner is ready."

He stole the book she was reading and closed it before resting it on the desk.

"Read something new or find yourself a more productive hobby, darling."

Claire ignored his comment and stood up to follow her boyfriend into the kitchen.

"I had some takeaway leftovers. If you don't mind we can have those today."

We both nodded and sat at the table.

"How was the day at work, honey?" Claire asked.

"Good."

"Good."

They both replied in sync making the poor girl widen her eyes and blush.

Cole pretended to giggle to lose up the tension as if he did it on purpose.

Brendon ignored him and cleared his voice before glancing at his girlfriend.

"Love, it was good. I am learning. Dad says I have much potential."

Of course, he would say that Cole thought to himself. Whatever he did, their father redeemed him as perfect and amazing in everything. Even if his results lacked compared to Cole's ones.

"That's great," Claire replied, she darted her gaze slowly to Cole and when their eyes met she could feel something snapping inside her heart like a hidden feeling.

"What about you, Cole?" She tilted her head to the side.

Cole was surprised to hear her questioning him as well, indeed he widened his eyes before smiling lightly.

"My day was good, I met two clients who could potentially trust me to own their finances. If they do it would mean raising our stats by a good amount."

Cole didn't understand much of that world but somehow, hearing him talk provoked in her some sort of curiosity. She felt interested in his job, in his life, and in him in general.

"She can't understand this world." Brendon intruded, bringing back the focus on him by saying: "I am sorry if you stayed here alone the entire day, maybe tomorrow I can bring you out on a date."

Claire nodded before taking a bite of her food, "sounds good but it's fine. There are many rooms to visit here. I guess it will take me the entire week to learn by heart about this villa."

Cole smiled, "I have a pool and a garden, also a library and a painting room. In case you ever get bored."

"A painting room?" Claire's eyes sparkled. For some fractions of instants she got some flashbacks of her hands drawing on the paper, she couldn't figure out what she was drawing but she remembered so keenly the movement of her hands brushing delicately on the thin paper.

"What happened?" Brendon asked, his voice sounding quite worried.

"I… I just remembered something." She said, her voice filled with commotion. It was the first time after the car accident that she restored some memories of her past. Maybe if lucky, she still could manage to restore more memories.

Maybe she wasn't completely lost.
