A great cure for insomnia

Nine weeks… that was about right… shoot… break was six weeks… plus the three weeks that we had tests… God… it seemed much longer when she put it this way.

"You do not seem happy about that," my mother offered. "Why wouldn't I be? Actually… I was just thinking about what we are going to eat," I totally lied.

"The boys and I will have rice and chicken," she told me, playing me game. The way she looked told me that she knew I was not telling the truth. "That sounds good," I smiled. "Ah… you like your mother's cooking better than your new cook huh," My mother raised her thick black eyebrow.

I laughed, shaking my head. "I have never had the chance to compare yet, but I am willing to bet that no one will ever be a better cook than you," I complemented her.

She liked that.

My mother did not bring up Dean the rest of the day and night, but he was the only thing I could think of.

I did not mind that the kids would sleep over at my mother's when I thought that Dean would come over tonight… But now that I was aware that I wouldn't see him for a while, a house empty of kids did not seem appealing to me.

I delayed going home as much as I could, but my mom said nothing about it. By the time I went back to my place the boys and my mom were long asleep and it was nearly midnight.

I took a quick shower and put Dean's shirt on, raveling in his smell.

I closed my eyes, but decided that sleeping was not what I wanted to do. There was actually only one thing that I wanted, so I picked up my phone and dialed his number.

"Darling." Dean cooed.

"Dean…" I sighed. I let my head back against my pillow. "Mhh.." murmured Dean. "I can't sleep," I said feeling at loss.

"I can't either," he admitted. "Why did you go all of a sudden?" I asked him with a knot in my stomach.

It was quiet for a while. "My family needed me home," he finally spoke. "When you said you needed to go home this summer, I thought you meant after the last few tests," I pouted.

"You are right, that was the plan," Dean offered. "What changed," I pressed, because he seemed reluctant to answer. "I don't want to have this conversation with you over the phone darling." Dean sounded on edge.

"Just come and see me after the last tests and then I will try and explain… well… everything," he said like he was carrying a heavy burden. "Or at least as much as is in my power," he added. So...I wouldn't be weeks without him. He confused me. Just three weeks then. That was less dramatic.

"What do you mean?" I questioned. I heard Dean sigh. "I can't wait three weeks until you explain what is going on…" I said quietly. "I will go mad by then," I bit my lip, hoping that will persuade him.

"What have you been up to today?" Dean questioned. "Can you turn on your camera?" I asked, not answering his question. He immediately did.

He looked wary. His eyes seemed hollow and I don't know… He was not okay. "You look lovely," Dean smiled as I turned on my camera as well.

He was bare-chested. My heart fluttered, God he was so enticing. His blue eyes seemed to peer through the screen."So?" he said meaningfully. I frowned. "What have you been up to?" Dean reminded me what his question was.

"Not much," I shrugged. "How important is it that your parents approve of me?" I asked him, actually not really ready to hear the answer and also not answering his question.

Dean stroke his hand through his hair. "Don't let Christal get to you," Dean slightly smiled. There was a flow of thoughts that I wanted to turn into words, but I did not.

"So you were not trying to convince your parents of me?" I boldly said, and immediately regretted my words when they were out. Dean made a face. "I do not want you to worry about anything, my sweet princess," stated Dean.

"I was not trying to convince my parents about my love-life really… but about that of my brother's."

That really made no sense what so ever. "What?!" I blurted out. Dean made his lips into a line, I knew for certain that he was trying not to smile.

"Why in the world would you be meddling with your brother's love-life?" That seemed a rather odd thing to do.

Dean seemed to ponder that and it took a while before he answered. "Because his marriage entails more than just him being happy," Dean stated.

I tried to let that sink in.

Dean's smile broke through into a very wide all-teeth-showing grin. "I know that it is something that is hard for you to comprehend," he said sweetly. "My brother is the oldest," Dean said as if that would mean something to me.

"Okay…" I frowned. "And that is relevant because…"

"My uhm… my family has… a uhm.. family business of some sorts." Dean seemed to choose his words carefully. "A rather large one," he added. ""There are a lot…. Of people that depend on my family…" he went on speaking.

I sighed deeply. "I am sorry, but honestly, I can't follow where this is going," I admitted. Dean cocked his head. "What has your family business to do with your brother's love-life."

Dean twitched his lips and narrowed his eyes a little. "When we will be together I will explain it all," he promised.

I did not like his answer and he seemed to notice that.

"So because your brother is the oldest he will inherit the company and that affects his love-life somehow?" I made an educated guess.

"Yes," was his only reply.

"And how does that affect his love-life, and better yet; will this affect your love-life?" I spoke my thoughts.

For a second, I thought that Dean was going to tell me what was going on, except that he did not. "Later," he promised me again.

"Now go to sleep my darling," Dean ordered me.

"I can't," I mumbled. "You can't or you won't," Dean said with humor in his eyes. I stared at the screen and took in his image.

"That is also an answer," he chuckled. I bit my lip. "Mhh…" He murmured. "If I were with you right now, I would of known a great cure for insomnia," he wickedly smiled.

"Oh, and what was that?" I dared him to continue. Dean's eyes glistered like stars and he opened his mouth to answer me.
