A tale of love

"I don't want to go back yet." She looked away from him and towards the moon.

It surprised him even more that a young maiden like her was willing to be left in the darkness rather to stay amidst the warmth of her family.

"I was enjoying the tranquillity of the place for quite some time until you decided to interrupt me." She stated her discontent, still looking away.

Deimos laughed at that. "Believe me, from what I heard, it was far from enjoying."

"Whatever it was, I wasn't expecting to be disturbed by anyone." There was a sudden change in her demeanour. Her voice had changed from a livid tone to a serene one and she was unbothered by his replies now.

Deimos took a seat on a boulder across from her and watched her stare at the moon. He had witnessed several beautiful things in his life but none compared to the emotions he was receiving while gazing at her. He wished he could read her exact thoughts. No woman had made him that curious and he was surprised as to why he was willing to surrender to her.

"Isn't the moon beautiful?" He remarked.

She didn't say a word but smiled at his words.

"This beautiful yet the wolves howl at the sight of it as if they are disgusted by it." Selene commented. Her displeasure at the word 'wolves' was clear from her voice.

"Or maybe the wolf is in love with the moon that he cannot touch." Deimos quoted reflecting the situation of the moment.

This fragile little creature had his complete attention from the moment he heard her crying. All he wanted now was to truly know and understand her. If there was a way one could hear someone's thoughts, then he would bet everything for it.

"You don't agree?" He prompted when she didn't speak.

"Absolutely not. And no one else would."

"Why?"

"Because people are likely to fall in love with the person who radiates their energy, who are alike them. Why would a wolf ever fall in love with the moon? The moon's up there and the wolves are here, why would they ever yearn of something out of their reach?" Selene stated.

"The moon you see up there now, once walked on the earth with humans." He said, looking up at it.

"I know that story. My mother used to tell me that when I was little. A guy fell in love with the moon, tried to break the line between Gods and humans, that's why Goddess of moon put a curse on him and his family and they turned into wolves." She recalled the story.

"Do you think the curse was justified?"

"I think the man should have not crossed his boundaries. He should have remembered that." She answered nonchalantly.

"Who could blame the poor creature, he was in love."

"I always feel that this story was extremely ridiculous."

"Oh so you don't believe in the idea of love."

"How many times do I have to remind you that it is so rude to assume things about people?" She yelled.

"I am not assuming you at all, I am just trying to read your thoughts." This was the only truth Deimos had told her tonight.

"I believe in love. But I don't think it is justified for someone to be blinded by it. The idea of love is so pure and beautiful but at the same time it is so foolish and parasitic. It gives you a lot of foreign emotions but at the same time it takes a lot from you as well."

Since the moment she saw him in the forest, she was trying to hide her identity from him and now here she was telling him her exact unfiltered thoughts about how she felt.

"You have confused the idea of love with tragedy."

"And what is love, if without tragedy?" She questioned.

"A beautiful dream."

"And do dreams ever come true?"

"Sometimes." He replied as he smiled.

"You have a good way with your words, don't you?" She looked away from him.

"I may have but I am just speaking my unfiltered thoughts."

"I am aware." She said in a low voice as she kept staring at the sky full of thousands of stars.

"Did that flatter you Miss…?" he paused for a moment, "What was your name again?" He attempted to befool her into telling him her name.

"As if I will ever tell you?" Selene turned her face away as she enjoyed the cool breeze against her skin.

"Why not?"

"Why does a name matter? It's not like we are ever going to meet again."

"You believe in destiny?" Deimos spoke out of nowhere surprising her.

"I don't." She replied quickly to hide her surprise.
