Ch 169: A Vampire's Heartache

Devastation bled Kai's heart to see Orlando kissing Victoria's neck again. He couldn't even say she was cheating completely because of everything that's occurred recently. Now to watch Orlando over top of Victoria's body crushed him in a way he didn't think was possible. Every kiss he gave Victoria was laced with romance and coated with delicacy.

All that desire Kai shared with her in the shower that day they washed each other clean. Before she begged him to make love to her. Was all but forgotten from her mind. He felt this beneath his achy heart.

Ace frowned between trees. "Let's get out of here. You don't need to watch something so dreadful."

Kai heard him but his eyes remained welded on the scene taking place. While he hid unseen within the shadows of the trees. Above them, the sky illuminated and showered in colorful meteors passing the earth's sphere.

A breathtaking sight it was but to Kai it showered over him like acid rain. To still see Victoria kissing and nibbling on Orlando's lips. The fact she was falling for him again broke Kai into utter numbness.

Around this whole world turned bleak for Kai. Hopelessness is all he felt at this moment of such heartache. To watch how Victoria curls her tongue up and then goes inside Orlando's mouth. Further fueled that hurt wrath beneath his chest.

Hot coals streaked his eyes bloodred to witness such passion between his mate and her lover. They were in an unstoppable love craze frenzy together. Hatred blew steam out of Kai's ears and he snorted fire beneath his chest like a dragon. Ready to take charge and conquer his competitor. It if wasn't for his sunglasses, the burning red color eyes would surely give away his position.

Surrounding him, Kai's friends noticed his fingernails extended into long striking claws, and the skin tone on his hand peeled away that warm golden tan into a creepy gray color. The true monstrous features were awaking inside him. They knew Kai was ready to launch forward to shred Orlando at any second now.

The second his body twitched for his attack, Rome intrepidly snatched his right wrist and stopped his vindictive action. Kai's neck snapped so viciously that they heard the bone pop.

"Don't do it," Rome gently reasoned. "She could get hurt or worse. You know she could die if she falls over such a steep hill."

Low throaty raw lion-ish sounds grumble and gurgled beneath his chest. Just when Kai was about to speak. Suddenly, he saw Victoria push Orlando off her. Then she darts her way in their direction.

Having no time to waste, Kai and his friends dissipate into an eerie black fog. Unseen, they fell back when Victoria entered and puked by the tree Kai had just clawed his nails into its bark. Remaining unseen, a little further back in the patch of trees. Kai and his friends stayed in their shadowy presence, watching.

All that boiling fury inside Kai's heart was replaced with love. He realized she and their offspring needed him. Without even Victoria knowing this but she ran right where he was standing. Kai understood, their brilliant offspring led her right to him. Almost instantly, he felt his offspring pine for him to come back to them. Which shattered Kai's heart. For the baby's safety, he couldn't respond to the call.

Victoria just finished puking but still held her stomach in discomfort. Kai could pick up the distress and confusion she expressed. Only for her, he softened up and wanted to expose himself to her.

Debate runs through his thoughts on whether he should just show himself to her. Until his mind was made up that he couldn't wait for his father any longer. After all, unknowingly she and their baby needed him and he needed them. He was done hiding the truth about what he is from her.

"Victoria!" Just when one foot went to step forward in solid shape, Orlando came for her.

Blistering animosity fumed him again to watch Orlando take her into his arms and held her. Again Orlando stepped over Kai and took care of his mate. His heart rotted to the core from witnessing Victoria cuddling up to Orlando and not him. She was so sickly and her skin tone was pale white. Orlando didn't hesitate when he picked her up and carried her away to his car. Inside Kai's chest, his heart bled to see the tail lights fade into the black night. Around him, his friends were all but relieved because it ameliorated Kai from doing anything irrationally stupid.

By the next day, Kai and his friends retraced back to the last bar Jack and Sharlene were at before they left that night on the blood moon. At this afternoon hour, the whole bar was empty and closed for the day. So they had to break in by sliding through the lock on the door as sand. One at a time, they sprinkled themselves onto the hardwood floor from inside the bar. Then each sandy pile spreads out and forms into their natural figuration.

"Let's look through the security footage again," Glenn said when he went behind the bar.

He then pulled the footage on laptop and rewind it back to that event where Rome and Jack were about to duel for Sharlene's interest. Jack, Glenn, Rome, and Ivan watched it again for the tenth time. While Kai and Ace cycled around smelling the air again.

"This is ridiculous!" Jack punched his fist down on the countertop, fully frustrated. "We've watched this over and over! And yet we haven't once found Rex or his advisors inside or outside this place. They weren't even at the other places we've been that night of the blood moon either!"

"Relax, Jack," Glenn tried cooling him down. "There has to be something we are missing here."

"That's a sure fact!" Rose's feminine voice and this perfume filtered into the air. They looked over at the entrance and saw forming from black vapor Rose, Sharlene, and Mia showed up uninvited.

"You shouldn't be here!" Ace growled at his pregnant wife Rose. Still blossoming her baby bump quite well. Yet the rest of her body was still thin like a pregnant model.

"You're going about this all wrong!" Rose hissed at her mate.

"This is dangerous!" Ace hissed at her. "You and Sharlene are pregnant. You both should be home resting."

"We're only pregnant, not completely helpless!" Rose growled showing her fangs. "You're too busy looking for a vampire when you should be looking for a vampiress!"

Outside the center bar, Kai took a seat on the stool, staying out of the argument between her and Ace. He was more curious about what Rose meant by this assumption. Although he certainly noticed Rose and Sharlene were relatively hormonal from their pregnancy.
