Ch 195: Out of Control Crash

Three hours passed by since Rome and Jack still stayed. Rome pig out on pizza after Nora invited us inside her dorm. Frankly, I hated the whole idea of them being here but after two hours. I was ok about it. Crazy enough, Jack and Rome were incredibly helpful with giving us pointers on the assignment.

Who knows how old they are, but I could tell they had some hidden wisdom behind their brains. And that's staying something for Rome because he can be so immature.

"Are you sure you didn't want pizza or anything to drink?" Nora asked Jack when she started to throw away some disposable plates in her trash can.

"No, I'm good," Jack replied, sitting across from me at the bar inside her kitchen. And he even gave me a positive wink. I could tell he knew I was nervous.

The book didn't say how long a vampire can go without food. But it did say vampires feed more often, especially if a vampiress is carrying their offspring. Usually, it's a Vampire's job to feed her and the baby she carries. And Sharlene is carrying Jack's vamp baby, so ya, I am worried.

"It's getting late, I think it's time to head back," I casually determined and started to help Nora clean.

"Oh, I got this, you guys can head out," Nora giggled.

Rome chuckled, "Nonsense, we can help ya out!"

He was quick on his feet from the barstool and started helping. After we cleaned, I grabbed my purse since my laptop was back at home. We said our farewell and walked out.

Outside I unlocked my car, and suddenly Rome got in the backseat, and Jack got in the passenger seat. I wasn't anticipating they'd drive home with me, but I went along with it and started the car.

"See now, we behaved like any regular day," Jack said when he chilled back and relaxed once I pulled out on the street.

"Yes, you did," I breathed, easily while staring ahead.

Rome chuckled in the middle seat, "Oh, honestly, Princess. We've been vampires, and you never figured it out."

I giggled at that one. "Maybe, but I was mostly worried about Jack since he hasn't drank any blood recently. I know you don't eat human food. Plus, Sharlene's pregnant with your baby. I assumed you're feeding her too."

Jack replied, "No, I don't but I have control. Only sometimes, I might lose it. And Sharlene hasn't been wanting my support."

"I'm sorry to hear," I sympathized because I heard the sadness in his tone.

Jack proclaimed emotionlessly, "It's alright, she'll come around at some point."

"How long can you go without feeding?" To change the subject for his sake, I asked since the book didn't fully explain that part.

"It depends on age and a variety of other things. Most of us can't go twenty-four hours. Twelve hours might be pushing it for some. That's why we drink blood from other sources or hunt animals, but at some point, most of us have to hunt humans. Only a fully controlled vampire or vampiress can go without the hunt for humans," Jack specified.

"I take it you don't have full control?" I asked, and peeked at him for a mere second before I focused back on the dark roadway.

Rome chuckled behind my right ear. "I don't even have full control, Princess. Jack has less control over me because I at least eat human food."

"Ohh..." I murmur speechless.

"I hunt humans at least twice a day or more," Jack truthfully told me.

"I probably shouldn't even ask about Kai's control level," I stated, exhaling tiredly to think about that one.

Jack carefully replied. "Kai has better control now compared to when he first woke up. But let's just say he doesn't care about control. As long as he doesn't feed from you or anyone else that will be turned within our Coven, that's where his control ends but the sight and smell of larger amounts of blood can effortlessly bring him into a frenzy."

That explains why he disappeared while I was on my cycle. Of course, I didn't share that with Rome or Jack. It's likely they already knew. Which is embarrassing to think about, but I guess it's part of the territory of being a vampire.

I sighed as these high beams blared ahead of me, going down this curvy hill. Without expecting it, the vehicle that appeared to be a truck sped up. Hardly a foot away, the truck swerved in my line.

"Victoria!" Jack shouts as he cuts my wheel sharply! My car swerved nearly on two wheels when the truck hit my door side and dented it inward!

Tires squeal, and I lose control of the car. We fly off the road and smash into the guardrail and then crash down this hill, with countless trees rooted on it. I screamed when we flipped in midair before we splashed in a pond! Water surged around us as the car was sinking.

Full force, Jack ripped the door off the hinges, and water flooded in. In the backseat, Rome did the same with such mighty strength! Water overflowed like a tidal wave the second those doors were ripped off. I took a huge breath before we went under.

Streaks of blood filter and swirl through the chilly water. Bubbles collected around when the car flipped over upside down as I was trying to unbuckle my seat. No matter how many times I tugged on it to release it I was stuck and trapped to drown in my car!

Somewhere from the back, Rome's hand grabbed my seatbelt. With a sharp claw, I merely saw him cut the belt with ease between my chest. Then Jack grabbed underneath my armpits and pulled me out of the passenger door. Instantly, he swam me up to the surface. I gasped for air and nearly coughed up a lung when Rome's head popped up with my purse. Neither of them even looked like they were struggling for air. Me, however, I felt as if my lungs were about to erupt from suffocation.

"Are you good?" Jack gently asked, and I could tell he was trying to hide his distress.

I shake my head, and he swam me out of the water and laid me back in his arms. My entire body was shaking while I felt this sharp stinging pain in my lower stomach. I rolled my soaked shirt, and I was shocked to see blood spewing from this decent size cut that looked like a knife sliced me open. My eyes enlarged at the thought I am bleeding with two vampires here!
