Ch 230: A Mother's Strength

As my mind raced in those thoughts. The vampiress wearing the white fur coat strides her high heel boots to me. Her eyes shone a captivating red, but her gaze pierced at me odiously. I could tell by that killer gaze, she wanted to rip my heart out of my chest, and eat it in the palm of her hand while it still beats.

The thought of reading that in her grisly expression was quite atrocious enough to send a chill to creep up my backbone. Every tiny hair on my body was elevated from how terrifying this is. Yet, I stay valiant and valorous for my vamp baby growing inside my womb.

Nearly nose to nose, she came to me and stared into my shaken soul. Until, her hand moved to the inside of her long pocket.

"Take this," she insisted with an icy voice that was dull but still colder than dry ice.

I kept silent and held out my palm for her to place a folded pocket knife in it.

"Why are you giving me this?" I asked, feeling my heart rate elevate.

"Do us all a favor, and kill yourself!" Her words came out venomously. I tumbled the knife onto the asphalt and stepped two steps back.

"How could you ask such a thing?" I ask, feeling my voice shatter between those words.

Her glare only got darker. "Unlike you, I love my mate, and I don't wish to lose him to Kai. Do us the honor and take your life, so our mates don't have to risk there's!" She said forcefully.

"I won't!" I speak clamorously and clearly. "Your mate need to stop trying to kill me. Kai won't hurt anyone if they back off!"

She hissed her fangs, "I should've killed you in that orphanage!"

"How did you know any of that?" I asked, still doing my best to be strong.

She wasn't going to kill me, so I knew that much. I understood, Kai was well-feared. So she wouldn't be stupid enough to try anything that would cost her to lose her immortal life.

Her fangs gnashed, "You silly girl! The Collin Coven weren't the only Coven watching you. You think what you feel now is pain. You have no idea what you're in the middle of. Your broken heart hasn't begun!"

"I don't care!" I said, holding back my tears. "I will endure it all."

"Spoken like a true mother," she glowered and eyed my stomach. "You best do what needs to be done before time runs out."

Right there, she and the vampiresses with her wither into petals and then they vanish within the breeze. I held my stomach and knew she sensed my vamp baby. Before any tears would fall, I inhaled a breath, then I got back in my car to continue home. And I was sure to leave that knife where it was.

Twelve weeks came in a flicker of time. And I never told Kai about my encounter with those vampiresses. Somehow, I figured he already knew because he had many guardians on campus. And either Darlene or Mia followed me around the campus for the remainder of last week.

Today I skipped classes, and Kai drove us to our appointment. In the waiting room, we didn't dwell long because someone called us back.

"Hello," Dr. Riley greeted us in the room. "How have you been feeling?"

"I've been sick, on and off," I said, laying back.

She pressed on my stomach, saying, "I accepted that you would be. Are you ready for the ultrasound?"

"Indeed, we are," Kai chimed over me.

I fixed my shirt before we walked to a different room. I did the usual and exposed my belly. Dr. Riley then put gel on my womb, and the image revealed our baby.

Kai held my hand, smiling at the screen. Compared to before, the vamp baby grew much larger now. The image was still tiny, but he or she looked more like a baby rather than being shaped like a bean.

No matter what pain I'll face. For my baby, I will pull through it. Plus, who's to say what that vampiress said was even true? All I knew is I will do whatever it takes to raise this vamp baby and be here forever for him or her.

"Despite your sickness, the baby is growing sufficiently," Dr. Riley happily told us.

Then she took pictures and cleaned everything up. Afterward, we were on our way home.

Once home, I showed Mrs. and Mr. Collin the new pictures of their vamp grandbaby. Afterward, we had dinner, and the rest of the evening was mellow.

Midnight, my eyes open from a restless dream in bed. I wasn't sure where Kai was at. Then I remembered what Rome told me that day I spoke to him in the kitchen.

I crawled out of bed and put on this appealing silky housecoat over my short silk black nightgown. Then I went over to the glass doors and moved the sheer black curtains out from around them.

Chilly, light breeze blew into my body the second I opened it. Diamond stars sparkled the raven night like glitter. I stepped out and turned to look above the high roof that didn't cover the entire balcony.

"Kai," I called to see him, sitting there gazing downward at me. Unlike most times, his sight wasn't flashing red.

"I'm here, my love," Kai replied with the softest smile.

He then leaped, and before I knew what happened. I found myself on his lap from on top of the roof. The gravity pulled my legs weightless from dangling over the decent-length drop below us. My reactions were a bit slow to hold on, but Kai held my waist, so I wouldn't fall.

He tucked his chin between my upper shoulder and hair. His body warmth took the chill away, and his breath tickled the skin behind my right neck side.

"Don't worry, I won't let you fall," he whispered, passionately.

"I trust that you won't," I whispered when my gaze became fascinated by the starry sight.

Things were so poetic, and the sight was breathtakingly beautiful. It was a night to remember.

"You should've told me about your encounter with those vampiresses," Kai whispered gently into my ear.

"I'm sorry I didn't, but I figured you knew," I whispered.

"I did," he confessed. "I smelled their sense on you." He then kissed the housecoat before finding the exposed skin on my nape. "Next time, don't hide anything from me. You know, I'll protect you."

I slightly moved my face far enough to see his domesticated eyes. "I know," I whispered, and naturally my lips went on his. The whole world felt as if nothing could ruin this rising romance brewing between us.
