*Ch 249: Wing and Slither Species

For the hour, I stayed with Kai. We danced to one song before we started chatting with his allies throughout the ballroom. Mitchell brought his wife Elizabeth over and introduced us. While our vamp husbands talked about the second war. I found out, Elizabeth isn't the same species as her husband.

She's a winged vampiress, which means she has angel-like feathered wings hidden underneath the flesh on her shoulder blades.

War-wise, like the Lights, the Wing species of vamps rather be peaceful creatures, and prefer unity over warfare. However, they're cunning in causing mayhem like the Slither species.

I'd read they're like sirens, only with wings, not fishtails. They sing a deceitful enchantment that will lure the vulnerable to their death.

Rumor has it, the Wing vamps can camouflage into stone and curse others into stone. Much like the Slither species of vamps, which match the mythology sea goddess known as Medusa.

Only Slither and Wing vamps roll their eyes in the back of their heads to turn you into stone, so they don't have snakes for hair.

Similar to Slithers, I read Wing vamps can control larger birds like crows, ravens, vultures, hawks, and eagles. Wing vamps used this trickery for spying by using those larger birds of prey. Slithers use the same method to control poisonous snakes or enormous pythons.

Alike, I'd read that the winged vampiresses are loving mothers like the Slithers. They've been known to take in vamp children that aren't blood-related to them.

During war, the Wing and Slither vampiresses never fight but flee with their offspring. Then the Wing and Slither vampires are heroic warriors.

To a human, Wing vamps are more like vultures than guardian angels. They hunt humans like a hawk catching a rabbit. Slithers strike us like snakes, minus being squeezed to death.

Despite their deadly thirst for human blood is a bit veiled. Other than that, Wing vamps are tender with a deadly outcome if you mess with them. That's what makes them different from the Lights, and more comparable to Slithers because they have no problem negotiating terms with their deadly fangs.

Crazy to realize that anybody who claimed to have seen Mothman, likely saw a Wing vampire. Theoretically, Slithers could be the explanation for how Medusa became a mythological goddess. Makes you wonder if legends and mythology were created from these different species of vampires.

Honestly, it makes perfect sense because some species have similar abilities to what ancient human history wrote about in legends and mythology.

"Is this how you became allies and best pals?" I asked Kai and Mitchell since I overheard their conversation about the second war that involved breeding with different species.

"It is," Elizabeth answered for them as she beamed lovingly at Mitchell before glancing at me again. "If we didn't win that war, Mitchell and I would have never been together because we aren't the same species. We owe Kai a lot for taking our side and fighting alongside Mitchell and countless others."

I smiled heartedly at Kai before I stated, "I don't understand why your Kind was divided against mixing species. You're fated mates after all."

Mitchell replied, "We thought the same way, but a handful of the oldest Headmasters wanted to avoid hybrids from being born."

"Why would that matter?" I asked.

Kai then elucidated, "Because those individuals didn't want any birthed hybrid vampires who could possibly be more powerful than them. Thus, they wouldn't be able to control them."

I hummed audibly as Mitchell continued to enlighten me, "During those times, we were still discovering ourselves and our capabilities as vampires. We didn't fully understand about destined mates, whenever different species were brought together like Elizabeth and me. We were still only growing our numbers at that time."

Kai continued, "Of course, that lack of knowledge is what triggered the second warfare. Right after we got our territories worked out."

"Do vampire hybrids exist since you won your side of the war?" I asked, fully intrigued.

"Of course not," Elizabeth replies. "When different species mate, our babies are born being one of the same species from its parents. Most of our offspring are shapeshifters like Mitchell. Our third oldest daughter and newborn son are winged species like me."

"Sounds like an unnecessary chaos that could have been avoided," I stated the obvious.

Elizabeth chuckled, "That's why the Vampire Covenant was conducted. Allies and enemies, vow to never again have another world war like those in the future."

"Cheers to that!" Mitchell toasted his glass of blood as Kai and Elizabeth clanged them together.

My smile faded as I sipped my non-alcoholic champagne. I acknowledged my existence could cause world war three to their vampiric history. It would be another war that Kai would have to fight in for my sake.

No wonder why that one vampiress told me to end my life. Overhearing these battle stories, I've learned Kai was quite ruthless. That vampiress surely knows, Kai might win the war like he won those other battles.

There were many vampires here that feared him, while a handful couldn't wait for the opportunity to challenge him. Nevertheless, I was figuring out, Kai might be merciless, but he had a hidden heart. He fought for what was right, over might and power. Repeatedly, I've been told, Kai hasn't been the same after he couldn't find me. Insanity took his mind, but I am seeing maybe the old him is coming back.

"Excuse me, Victoria and Elizabeth, I need to steal Kai and Mitchell away," Levi squeezed in, telling us, which completely pulled me from my pondering mind.

"As long as you aren't up to any mischief, then you have my consent," Elizabeth giggled, jokingly.

Levi laughed with Kai and Mitchell, "I can't make any promises, but I'll return him once we're done," teased Levi.

Elizabeth giggled and kissed her husband's lips while Kai consulted with me, "I hope you don't mind."

"Not at all," I told him before we kissed. They disappeared into the crowds as Elizabeth and I chatted for a bit. Once more of her friends came by, I took the opportunity to sneak off and explore the rooms outside the ballroom.
