Dungeon of the Vengeful (2)

The corridor in the cave led to a smaller, circular room with no other entrance or exit visible. It was hard to see the room as there were no crystals lighting it up, but that problem was soon resolved.

Once Enzo passed into the room a line of torches started to light up and a boulder slid in place behind him, blocking him from leaving the room.

Ding!

[You have entered the first boss room for the Dungeon of the Vengeful.]

Right after the announcement, another zombie hand popped up from the middle of the floor. However, this one was much larger than the others. The hand was simply gigantic, and so was the body that soon followed. The large zombie looked to be at least 9 feet (2.74 m) tall and had the same body structure as the smaller zombies. The main difference was in the equipment this zombie carried. He had a large wooden spear with a dark green tip that was taller than itself. It also wore light leather armor on all parts of its body.

[Zombie Leader (Boss)]

Enzo marked the boss monster and started looking for the weak spot. It didn't take long as the weak spot was the same as the normal zombies, but much smaller. The golden glow only encompassed a small portion of its forehead, right above the eyes.

Enzo put away his katana and took his bow out again.

Enzo knew it would be a dumb move to use his katana in this situation because not only did the Zombie Leader carry one of the longest ranged melee weapons, but it also would be extremely hard to hit its weak point with a medium range weapon. The Zombie was much too tall for Enzo to be able to get close enough to the spot on its head. Yes, he did have the physical power to jump that high now that his stats were higher, but there was no way he would be quick enough to get the attack off.

Enzo looked over his shoulder and checked his stock of arrows. It was lower than usual because some of them broke when he killed the normal zombies, but luckily most of them survived. He would make do with what he had.

He then took an arrow and nocked it on the bow and got ready to fire it.

"Roar!"

The Zombie Leader let out a guttural roar that sounded similar to one a lion would make when warning other predators to stay away from its den.

The undead monster raised its spear and pointed it at Enzo as if waiting for it to charge.

"Uh, I have a bow you idiot. I'm not about to charge at you." Enzo said.

"Grrr?" The monster growled.

"Sigh. Nevermind."

Woosh!

Enzo let the arrow fly from the bow.

-50

"Damn."

He missed his target by a longshot. Instead of hitting the zombie on its head like he wanted to, he accidentally hit it on the shoulder.

Enzo may have had a lot of talent with weapons compared to other people, but he was still a novice. Weapons like the bow and arrow are extremely hard to master, so it was obvious he would have some difficulties sometimes.

The zombie didn't even flinch when the arrow hit its shoulder, but he seemed to realize his opponent had a long range weapon and wouldn't be charging at him.

The zombie roared one more time before running towards Enzo.

The monster was slower relative to what any other boss monster of a different species might be, but it was definitely not slow in Enzo's eyes. The speed of the monster actually surprised him a great deal, but he still reacted quickly.

Enzo started sprinting around the edges of the room until he was a good enough distance from the zombie. He then got to one knee and aimed his bow again.

Woosh!

-500

The arrow lodged itself just beneath the monster's left eye.

"Grrrraahhhh!" It howled in pain before resuming its charge to Enzo.

Enzo also resumed running away from the beast. He planned on playing this cat and mouse game until it was dead.

The zombie may have been fast, but Enzo was still faster, so the only thing he feared at the moment was running out of arrows before he could kill it.

Enzo turned around again but this time got into a proper stance and took a deep breath before letting the arrow.

Woosh!

[Critical hit!]

-1,000

"Roar!"

The arrow lodged itself deep into the middle of the monster's forehead, right through the weak spot.

"They really need to make it so it's an instant kill when vital spots are hit." Enzo grumbled to himself.

The game was super realistic for everything other than when players and monsters were attacked in their vital spots. The damage would show, but it was as if they were able to just ignore their heart getting stabbed or their head getting decapitated as long as they had health points left. It was a very confusing part of the game, but players had to just deal with it or complain to the developers, which many players did.

Enzo played the game of cat and mouse with the Zombie Leader until he finally ran out of arrows.

There were arrows lodged all over the body of the zombie, but many of them hit the leather armor sadly.

Enzo wasn't able to aim properly with the big beast chasing after him, so most of his shots missed other than a few he was able to get on the monster's weak spot.

"Sigh."

Enzo put away his bow and unsheathed his daggers.

He considered using his sword for a second, but quickly realized his daggers would once again be more effective. He needed to be as fast as possible to get past the guard of the zombie with its long range weapon, and the sword would hinder him if he tried that.
