“I told you why I’m here, Persephone Everette,” I said, voice trembling slightly.
“Oh, really?” Caleb asked, a smirk on his lips as he raised an eyebrow. His glance flickered behind me to Loki. “That is most… intriguing.”
“I want to see her,” I demanded, stamping my foot weakly.
“Of course,” Caleb said with a nod. He picked up the phone on his desk and made a quick call. “Beta Howe, retrieve the lovely Persephone, and bring her to my office, please.”
He hung up and rested his elbows on the desk, peering over his interlocked fingers at me. A shiver ran down my spine as his eyes burrowed into my clothes, through my skin, and right down to my bones.
Seconds on the clock ticked away, and I looked at it again. Howe better hurry. If the timing was off by just a few minutes…
