Chapter 39: Persephone

The buzzer went off a second time as I hit the button again. Why was it taking so long? The Penthouse was always supposed to have pack members there, that was the whole point of it. I’d been standing outside for more than ten minutes after ringing the buzzer the first time.

All that worry and anxiety, and they wouldn’t even let me in.

I pressed the buzzer a third time, ringing it twice now for urgency. An intercom clicked on.

“What do you want?” a female voice snapped.

“Persephone Everette?” I asked, recognizing the voice.

“Oh, um, who is this?” she asked, her tone turning timid quickly.

“Genevieve McTyrne. I’ve been working with your brother, Alpha Loki,” I explained. Hopefully, that would be enough to get me through the front door.

A chilly wind whipped around me and I hugged myself. I could withstand a lot colder than most humans, but even this chill was almost too much. Like a warning of what was to come.
