Chapter 37: The Runaway

Riley’s POV

I wake up in the middle of the night, when it's still a few hours before dawn. The bed is empty, and where Theo should be, there is only a pile of rumpled sheets.

With my eyes squinting from sleep, I remain laid down on the bed. The room is silent. The bathroom lights are off. He is clearly not here.

Curious, I get up. I grab my underwear from the floor and put on Theo's pajama top. I leave the room rubbing my eyes from exhaustion. Through my body, I feel an ache that concentrates on my inner thighs that speaks to what happened hours ago. An ache that is not bothersome at all, but one that I feel I will notice more strongly in the morning.

The kitchen lights are on, so I head towards them, thinking that Theo must be there. His voice however gives away that he is obviously having a conversation with someone. A conversation I shouldn't be listening to.

“I shouldn't have,” Theo declares.
