I was glad to have won the battle of words, but a low feeling rose in me and I was apologetic for the last comment that seemed to really hurt him. I sat quietly with my foot in the water until the medi-kit arrived. Ty and Ryan had managed to disappear and I did not have the heart to call for her. I could not even see Dev. 


I thanked the messenger for bringing it, but I could do nothing since I had never even seen a medi-kit and had no idea how it worked. I set it next to me and lay back with my hands beneath my head. I knew that my toe would be okay, so I relaxed until a shadow fell across my face. 


“No sense in wasting the messenger’s time,” Dev said, sitting down and opening the medi-kit. “I don’t like you, but I will not be cruel and let you sit in pain.” 


“It doesn’t hurt that much,” I defended. 


“Shut up,” he said and turned my foot towards him, placing it in his lap. I kept my mouth shut as he dried my foot with his shirt and looked at the swollen flesh around my big toe.
