Late

Stepping into the elevator, I let out a yawn. Pressing the ground floor button, I slumped against the back wall, glad today was over. I however was greatly disappointed to not get a call from the man in the coffee shop. Maybe he thought of me as a weirdo. Same as the three others had. Daniel and Chace hadn't even listened to the contract. James did but laughed at the thought. Maybe I was doing something wrong. Maybe I should try with an agency. Whatever I choose, it needed to be soon. The wedding was only ten weeks away and there was a lot to figure out. I would, however need a man first.

The next morning, I awoke early. Earlier than my alarm. Not able to fall back asleep, I got up and went for a run, returning home just as I was meant to be getting out of bed. "Perfect timing." I told myself as I peeled of my running stuff and jumping into my shower. The hot water relaxed me as I washed the sleep away. I then walked into my wardrobe selecting a pencil skirt, shirt and heels. I blow dried my brown hair, not bothering to style it but just leaving it to fall naturally. I then got dressed promptly, putting on some mascara and red lipstick . Grabbing my bag, laptop and one of my many coats, I headed out the door, slipping into my awaiting car.

She's waiting for you in your office." Ellise said as the phone begun to rang. I left her to get it and walked into my office, a smile on my face.

Sitting in front of my desk was the blonde from the elevator yesterday. "Ms. Williams." She said as she stood up. I shook her hand, swung my coat over my chair and dropped my bag on the floor. "I apologise if I'm late." I said pulling out files and sipping my coffee. "That's fine, I'm actually early." She stated with a little chuckle. I nodded. "Well, Ms. " I paused looking down and my folder. "Samuels." I looked up at her again and smiled. "Call my Wendy, please." I nodded. "Okay, Wendy, your first book had great sales and I understand you are looking at publishing a second?"

The rest of the hour meeting dragged on. I didn't usually deal with clients directly but Wendy was a young author who had sold millions of copies of her first novel. Plus, she had requested to deal with me and she was paying us very well. Once that was over though, I had several other meeting including a staff meeting.

By the end of the day, I was drained. The man from the coffee shop had not called and when speaking to B on the phone, whilst going home, I found he had not come in to get his coffee that morning. "Why? Didn't he call?" I smiled out the window. "Nope." I said sighing. "You should get dressed up and go out tonight. Keep an open mind, and I'm sure you'll meet someone." I rolled my eyes. "I am not going out partying tonight. I have work to do. Plus, I wouldn't fall in love, I'd probably just end up in some bad situations." B then went on to say I never go out which I found to be an exaggeration as last week I had gone out. Yes, it was a work function but Out is Out.

After hanging up, getting home and making myself some dinner, I worked late into the night, falling asleep on my lounge room couch. I woke up in the morning with a kink in my neck and I really didn't feel like going in to work. Knowing I had no option though, I pulled myself up and went to get ready.

Half an hour later, I walked out the door in a black and white pencil skirt and light blue peplum top, with one of my coats pulled tightly around my waist.

On arrival at the office, I found Ellise wasn't at her desk so left a post-it note asking for coffee before entering my office. I worked busily all morning, uninterrupted and in silence, except for when Ellise brought in my coffee. I was quite shocked when my phone started ringing, jumping in my seat as it startled me. Breathing in deeply, I picked it up. "Hello?"

"Katherine, remember how you told me if a man with your business card called, to put him through?" Ellise paused whilst I recollected the information. "Yes?" I asked, suddenly paying more attention. "Well, he's actually here in person." I didn't understand and had to process the information but when I realized what was going on, I panicked.
