Where It All Began

I don’t care if I look like a weirdo gaping at his back. It’s him! He’s back! I run up to him and grasp him behind. He halted in his tracks, and I felt him freeze on his spot, unable to say anything. I get it since he must have been traumatized because he went missing with his parents. I’m glad he’s back. I haven’t checked my socials since I’m too depleted for the past week considering him.

But now he’s here, and my worries are gone.

“I miss you!”

I went around to confront him, not minding the students observing us. I look up to him, and my body abruptly ends in fear when I sense something is wrong with his look. He looks…different. Why do I suddenly feel like I’m talking to another person in front of me? The way he gazes at me, if he doesn’t have any clue who I am. Or am I just hallucinating since we haven’t seen each other for a while?

“Nathan?” I asked him since he was towering over me. I held up for him to do something. Like kiss me or embrace me, or say sweet things to me as he would always do every time he had the chance. But nothing happened. He just gazes at me, looking like a corpse that’s been out of the coffin. He looks tired and inert because of how his eyes stare at me. I can feel my internal parts screaming.

“N-nathan, it’s me. Your girlfriend, Natasha?” I attempted to say my name to him if that rings a chime, but no reaction. His jaw tightened, and he balled his hands. He looks exasperated at my presence. I tried to touch his face, but he slapped my hand away and walked past me as if I was nothing to him.

“Damn…”

Some students snicker at me. I didn’t take note they were watching us. I felt my cheeks reddened because of the ignominy I perceived. I look at Nathan’s back as he walks away. I didn’t give up as I tried to run up to him and hug him one more time, in case he would remember me.

“It’s me, Nathan! Natasha! I’m your girlfriend! You said you love me! Why are you treating me like you don’t know me?”

But he was at range when he looked at my eyes. I see bloodlust that’s hungry for something. That minute, I backed away. I have never been so frightened in my whole life, not until I saw how ravenous his eyes were. He let out a low snarl, making me falter on my spot as I followed him, strolling away. When he was gone, I felt tears spilling down my cheeks.

He changed. When he got what he wanted, he disregarded me. I can’t accept this. I trusted him, but this is what he reimbursed me. I didn’t go to my class. I went instead to the comfort room and bailed my eyes out. I want to punch him. I want to tear him apart, but I know to myself I can’t do that. I still have a deep affection for him even though he slaps his real agenda right before my face.

I feel so inept. I look at myself in front of the mirror. My makeup is all over my face. I look like a jumble of mountain pieces of trash. I hurled out a burdensome sigh and overthought. Possibly, he will recognize me tomorrow. I just need him to unwind and adapt to his environment for now since he must’ve been enduring trauma. I should give him some time.

However, even the following days are still the same. Each time our eyes meet, he continuously scowls at me. My eyes wrinkled in perplexity when I saw he had little fangs. The last time I remember, his teeth were perfect, he doesn’t have any of that. He rapidly looked away before I could run up to him, making me sign in vanquish.

The cycle proceeds. I tried talking to him. I attempted to devise a plan to run up to him and incidentally trip in front of him to help me, but he would ignore me ceaselessly as if I didn’t exist.

“Shut up! Leave me alone!”

He yelled furiously at me when his temper snapped. He thrust my shoulder aside, making me nearly lose my balance. I followed him while he was strolling away to the cafeteria.

“She’s not going to give, is she?”

“She looks desperate.”

“She can’t accept the fact Nathan doesn’t really love her.”

Their words cut deeper through my flesh and went straight to my damaged heart. But that didn't stop me from doing anything, especially when I first heard his voice again. This time, there's a slight contrast in his tone. A few people might not recognize it, but I have an excellent perception ability, and this time, I figured something was wrong with Nathan. I just couldn't put my finger on what it was.

The school chime rings, signaling the students the classes are over. I hastily packed up my things and went outside to look for him. He’s not that difficult to find since he’s tall and breathtaking. I mean, the guy basically looks like a half-god. Each person who looks at him makes them break their necks for ogling.

When I finally saw him walking, I subtly followed him. I know I look like a creep, but I need answers. It still feels odd for him to disappear and appear out of no place.

I raised a brow when I saw him walking outside the campus. He has a car. Nathan can drive, but why is he walking home? This is one of the red flags. The first red flag is his voice. It’s more deep and raspy.

I need to get to the bottom of this mess. My consciousness wouldn't let me rest at night, knowing something is strange about him. His style is even distinctive. He used to wear stylish clothes. Instead, he would pair his style with white long sleeves that the first button is open, brown slacks, and white shoes. Simple, but it screams like he's a runaway model. Unlike Nathan, I'm seeing right now. He’s wearing a dark jacket, pants, and boots. He looks mysterious and yet, hard to reach.

Whereas he’s strolling on the side street, I’m making sure he won't see me. Each time he did a sideways glance, I would cover myself behind a tree, behind a car, or even behind a tall guy. A few individuals may see the doltish, but I can’t risk my identity to him. I had to know where he was heading.

I didn’t notice the sun was setting, and the sky was getting dim. I looked straight ahead then a sudden strike of deja vu crawled in my system. I attempted to shake the anxiety away, but something told me I had been in this place before. I swallow the trump that’s blocking my trachea. I end my tracks, and I frantically look around the area. This place seems familiar, the feeling I have had here before.

There are no people, and the place looks quiet. Where is Nathan heading? What is this place? I had a bad feeling this was not a great idea. The sun has finally set. All of a sudden, obscurity fell all around. There were no streetlights on the street side, so I didn’t see much. Luckily, it's the full moon, and she is shining today evening time.

“Who are you?!”

I nearly jumped in astonishment and panic when I saw a man backing away while looking at my spot. He looks frantic. I was about to go up to him when somebody blocked my way, and this time, my eyes widened in fear when I recognized who he was.

“Stay back! I don’t want to hurt you!”

I was anxious when Nathan towered over the man, making him yell in his spot. I need to scream at him and tell him to stop. What is he doing?! Why is he attempting to assault the poor blameless man? But some time recently I could do anything. He all of a sudden looked up and let out a feral howl.

My jaw nearly hit the ground when he grunted in so much torment as his body was changing into something I couldn’t put my finger to. He secured his head as he crept on the ground. The man backed away in so much fear as he attempted to run, but froze in his spot.

His human substance is presently secured in thick long gray fur. His nails turned sharp and pointy, extending into claws. I couldn’t get a handle on what was happening as my internal parts were shouting at me to run, but something was driving me to remain and see what was going on. When the transformation is complete, he looks up and lets out a low petrifying howl. He slowly looks at the man shaking with so much fear in his eyes.

“P-please…spare my life.”

He didn't listen. He let out his fangs, and they shone so brightly in my face as he attacked the man on the ground. I felt all of the floor slithering away. I need to do something. I needed to help, but I didn't think anymore as I saw the blood splash around the road.

The man was crying and grieving for help. I attempted to reach my hands, and that’s when he noticed me. The man reached up to me, and he all of a sudden shouted with so much misery.

“Help! PLEASE!”

My lips were shaking when Nathan, now a wolf, turned his gaze at my spot. When he recognized who I was, he let go of the poor man who was now covered with his blood.

I tried to get up on my knees even when they shook so badly. That’s my cue to run.

Before he might tackle me, I dodged him and went straight ahead without looking back. I can hear his low snarls and quick paws catching. My tears stream down my cheeks. That’s not Nathan. That’s not my boyfriend! That’s a beast hungry for blood and flesh!

I got into the woods. I don’t know where I am heading, but one thing beyond any doubt is I have to get out of his sight. While catching my breath, I abruptly recollected my dream. The precise same time, place, and situation! A half man-half wolf was chasing me. But I didn’t know that it was going to be my boyfriend!

Before I could even jump on a tree that was blocking my way, I felt him strangle on my back. We rolled around the dirt and halted when I bumped into a huge rock. I let out a groan of pain. I slowly opened my eyes and was confronted with confronting the animal. My heart all of a sudden beat so quickly I couldn’t breathe appropriately.

His eyes are lusting for something. His fangs are shown with blood dripping from the incident earlier. But something caught my attention when I looked into his eyes. I swallowed a trump in my throat, and I tried to reach his face.

“It’s me….” I said in a calming tone. I know he’s in there. I don’t know what happened to him and why he all of a sudden changed into a werewolf, but I know he’s still the same guy I love.

“The woman you love.” I let out a smile, showing I am not scared of him even though my insides are horrified.

His face facilitated down a little, and he began to calm down. I was about to reach his face when he all of a sudden let out an animalistic growl, showing me his colossal teeth, and everything went dark.
