Masons Pov
Amora was happily immersed in a conversation about humans with Misa when one of the female wolves of the pack approached me. Her name was Iris. She sat down in the empty seat next to me where Emerson was supposed to sit but instead sat next to Misa on the other side of Amora.
"Hello Alpha!"
"Iris." I addressed her to keep things short as I had no interest in conversation. Amora hadn't even so much as looked over yet.
"So rumor around the pack is that you and the luna haven't fully mated yet."
My eyes shot to her, "It's not any of your business Iris, but who started that rumor?"
"Well we don't exactly see a mated mark, so the female wolves were thinking maybe a couple of us could take the edge off with a little time with you by ourselves-"
"I never slept with anyone in this pack before my mate came, what makes you think I would start now?" I growled. Everyone around us stopped and stared because of my sudden outburst, a few scooted away and cowered.
"Well....Ophelia said-"
"And where is Ophelia right now?"
"In the cells but-"
"End of discussion Iris. Get out of my sight." Amora was looking directly at me now.
Iris didn't move. Instead she put her hand on my shoulder. A growl ripped through the air that sent many wolves running but it wasn't my own.
"Do you not know what no means? Or are you too stupid to follow the instructions of your alpha. Get. Lost." Amora said from beside me.
Iris tensed up and quickly ran off. Amora looked to the pack who was still tense and some were outright gone, probably back home or to another room in the pack house until things cooled down. Amora's familiar soft face returned as she spoke again.
"Sorry for getting angry guys. Please enjoy the meal."
I had never seen Amora mad at anyone, not truly mad at least. She didn't like me for a while but she never hated me.
Amora didn't look at me after that. I tried to talk to her but she brushed me off and continued talking to Misa and ran away with Misa right after they finished eating. Emerson caught me to talk with him about pack stuff I needed to catch up on before I could run off after them.
Despite being older than me, Emerson never stood up to me. He often warned Misa to not push me and fight with me, not that it mattered to her. I would die for Misa and would never hurt her and she knew it. She pushed me to the limit often just cause she could. Emerson continued on his talk about the pack boundaries being expanded while I zoned out.
"Are you okay Mason?"
I turned to him and realized I must have been making a face, "I'm fine, why?"
"You look angry- and after this mornings outburst-"
"I'm fine."
"Have you talked to luna Amora- I mean like really talked about what happened with Ophelia?"
"We spoke about it once and she said she forgave me."
"Doesn't seem like she did given her running off."
"I'm aware Emerson. She didn't exactly give me a chance to speak to her about it yet."
He shook his head and turned away.
"Say what you want to say Emerson."
"I just- I don't understand why you did it. When I met Misa I couldn't ever imagine being with anyone but her."
"You think I wanted Ophelia? When I met Amora she couldn't stand me. I though she would never accept me as her mate. I mean you saw her. She didn't want to be with the cruel alpha. So I used Ophelia to take my mind off her. The whole time I imagined Ophelia was her, I never thought we would end up together. I didn't even know she could feel it. After she accepted me and told me what Ophelia had done to her I punished Ophelia and would never sleep with another wolf again. I know it doesn't make up for it, but I thought Amora understood."
"I can't believe everything the luna has been though. Ophelia really does deserve to be punished. Misa told me about the bruises she found on Amora...and the scars."
My blood boiled just thinking about it. The bruises had faded but the scars were still there. Amora hardly ever let me see her without a shirt but I saw a few of them.
"Brother!" Misa yelled to me.
I looked up ahead to Misa who was smiling. I smiled back and made my way down the hill we were on to greet her. She had a small baby with her who I recognized as one of our packs pups. Jack's kid Penelope. I looked around quickly but Amora wasn't there.
"Jack let me see Penelope for the day! Me and Amora have been playing with her since this morning.'
"Where is Amora?"
"Resting, she said she was tired so I walked her inside and left her at your room. I think we better leave her alone for a while, while she sleeps-"
I turned before she could finish talking.
"Rude!" She called after me.
I laughed under my breath and continued on my way. I barely made it inside the pack house before I heard Amora. I turned away from the path to our room and followed her voice to the kitchen.
"...pathetic." I heard Iris say.
I rounded the corner just in time to see three female wolves corner Amora. Every instinct in me told me to kill them but I knew Amora needed to handle it on her own. She didn't flinch as they surrounded her.
"Pick your next actions carefully Iris. Insulting me in front of others is one thing but you will not attack me and expect me to take it." Amora said in a steely voice I had never heard come out of her.
Instead of taking her warning Iris jumped at her. Amora side stepped and sent Iris flying into the wall. Before the others could even register what happened Amora had them on the ground. Only then did she notice me. Her smile was a smile I knew all too well. She was angry and territorial. They had threatened her position as my mate and she was angry about it. She stood up without bothering to step over them and made her way over to me. That feline smile stayed on her face the whole way over. She only stopped when she was pressed up against me. She slowly reached up and put a hand in my hair to guide me into a rough passionate kiss. I was shocked, too shocked to move. She didn't care. She looked back at the females on the ground staring.
"Mason is your alpha. You will address him as such and stay in your place. This is mercy. I should kill you for threatening my place as luna."
Iris ran off before the other two and it was only then that Amora stiffened at the realization of what she had done. I pulled her to me and placed as gentle a kiss as I could give before picking her up. She didn't struggle but her breathing was unsteady as I carried her back to our room.
