Chapter 1

Five hundred years ago…

Stephanie sat on one of the cushions in the living room and stared vacantly in space, oblivious of her surroundings.

She was a beautiful girl of six years and had beautiful black eyes with cherry lips. She used her arms as a support and placed her chin on them. She sighed. She looked dull and tired , with her long blonde hair cascading down her back. She seemed to be in deep thought. Suddenly, as if possessed, she sat up and stared at the door. Gritting her teeth and clenching her fists tight, she made a beeline for the door.

Opening it, she walked through it with determination. She walked for about five minutes and didn't stop until she was a few meters away from the front of a police station. She hesitated and then took another step forward. She seemed to be going through a series of emotion which her eyes did nothing to conceal.

Unbidden her mind flashed back to the conversation she'd had with her mom a few months back…

"Mom?" She'd called. One could see the clear similarities between the two, but while Stephanie looked simple, her mom had looked the direct opposite with long fixed eye lashes, equally long nails and her hair was dyed purple.

"Yes, dear?" She answered not bothering to look up from her phone screen. She had been busy typing away at her phone. Her Mother had been the typical example of a bad Mother, she didn't care much about her children and kept many boyfriends despite being married. She cared so much about her jewelry and material things.

" Mom?… I don't like this place… could we please move out… just the two of us? She asked, hopeful.

"Don't be silly dear, move to where?"her Mom asked. " Why would you even think of such a thing?" She added.

" Because… it's…Dad and….Percy,they… they don't treat me like a human…they…they treat me like a slave of sorts.

Her Mom paused what she was doing and looked at her before bursting her into uncontrollable laughter.

" Look Steph, I understand you don't like, your brother much, but you should leave your Dad out of your madness dear, they are both good people " she said and turned her attention back to her phone.

Stephanie was visibly hurt by her response , it showed in her near to tears eyes, and her sunken shoulders. Of a truth, she wasn't surprised by the reply she got , in fact she had expected it to an extent. But it still hurt nonetheless to hear it.

Gritting her teeth and clenching her fists, she closed her eyes and took a deep breath. Moving towards her Mother, she bent down and lifted her shirt up so that she could see the bruise marks on it. And it got her attention.

"What the…Stephanie what happened to your back! Don't tell me you got into a fight at school!" She asked horrified.

"No Mom, it was Dad,he…he did this to me"

"Never!,Chris wouldn't ever do something so despicable to you"

Just then her Mom's cellphone rang , she picked it up and a minute later, she squealed in delight and forgetting about Stephanie , picked up her handbag from the bed and ran out of the house, leaving Stephanie behind in her room.

Back to the present…

Stephanie looked at the police station once more and turned away, with tears in her eyes, heading back home even though it clearly didn't feel like home to her.

That day her Mom had asked if she had gotten into a fight at school but ironically she had long stopped attending school according to her father's wishes.

Her father had been constantly abusing her and had always threatened to kill her if she told anyone.

She had mustered up so much courage to confide in her Mom but she hadn't even believed her, what proof then did she have that strangers would?

A few months after she'd had that conversation with her Mom. Her Mom had left them without a word to go live with her new boyfriend, which made life more miserable for her.

Current day.

11:32 pm

Scott Mendeleev and his friends had met at the club as they had planned earlier that day to drink and unwind to celebrate the end of their exams. They were wasted and drunk. He decided it was time to go home.He was the only one still sober among them. Luckily he'd brought along his Mom's Lexus 330. He practically stuffed five of them into the back sit and then led Clark his closest buddy who was the least drunk to sit at the passenger's seat and helped him strap his sit belt. Then went around to the driver's seat and started the car.

"Hee hee, is it just me or do the skies look blue today" Riley asked.

"What color is it supposed to look Riley " Clark asked from the front.

"Dumb, dumb Clark they're pink" she responded

"Not pink Riley, they're black" Benson commented. "Could have sworn it was white though" Chloe said which came out almost as a whisper.

"Nope, black i..it's black, it's pink " Riley giggled " it's black pink that way we're all correct" she said with a happy smile.

"Nope just…just green not the other two " Benson said.

This was going turn into a serious argument soon Scott thought shaking his head.

"I have an idea" Riley said triumphantly " we should ask Scott he's the smartest of us all" she continued.

"Yeah scottzy what color is it?" He just kept mute and continued driving, there was no way he was talking to drunken teens, that would be stupid. They waited eagerly.

1 minute

2 minutes

3…4..

"Aah, such a bore he won't even answer!"

"Let's ask Freddy then" Benson suggested

"Yeah! Fredrick, the knight in shining everything , what color is it?"

They all turned to look at him only to see that he and Natalia had been in their own world making out all the while.

"Hmm… all we have now is our little brains" Chloe said sadly.

Just then the car came to go an abrupt halt surprising all of them even Fredrick and Natalia.

" What's going on "Riley asked.

Silence

"What's going on?" this time it was Fredrick who asked.

"Jump down from the car Benson" Scott said quietly.

"But why " Benson said getting scared.

"Idiot don't you recognize your house" said Scott tiredly. He chose to hang out with morons, so this was his punishment.
