Chapter 19: Vampires Vote

NORI'S POV

I walk into the salon and help Milo into a seat. I take a few steps to the left and lean against a wall, staying in his peripheral vision but allowing the Cauldron to focus in on him. He’s quiet but somehow manages to look unperturbed. I notice that he takes a moment to make eye contact with everyone but Weston.

The silence falls, and it’s a sort of vampire silence that isn’t found in human society. Normal people fidget, whether they’re talking or not. Humans will cross and uncross their legs, adjust their clothes, crack their knuckles. Humans breathe, clear their throats, touch their hair. This is not like that. Everyone is utterly motionless. I give Milo enormous credit. He doesn’t fill the silence with unnecessary words. He waits, loose and patient, until someone cuts through the dead air.

Unfortunately, it’s Weston.
