Chapter 29: One Less In the Cauldron

MILO’S POV

Our presentation of the weapons for Operation Holy Water via the double tap method had some pretty mixed results. Maaka and I demonstrated the freeze gun, which was really a modified squirt gun we found in a blown out box store in the city, sanitized until it was free of impurities, and filled with supercooled water that only got to subzero temperatures with the application of a salt/ice bath. Maaka shot the gun at my feet, freezing me in place and giving me a second of absolute, completely illogical panic. That burning cold, it reminded me too much of not having the ability to move my legs.

I looked up and saw Nori’s eyes, trained on me. It reminded me I was here, with her, and I was okay.

Maaka invited the Cauldron up to touch the ice, to see how strong it was. When I finally broke out of it, the bottom of my pants shattered into shreds, so frozen the fabric cracked apart as if it were glass. I was still standing. It is good to be a vampire.
