Chapter 34: Marry Me, Nori

NORI’S POV

All I can think as I hit the dirt is that we’ve been betrayed. It burns in me far hotter than the fire my own people set, crackling all around us. There’s a reason none of our reliable allies are here. Either Weston planned this or the others planned this knowing it would please him.

Enough is enough. If we survive this, and that’s a big if, I’m going to challenge him. I’m going to twist his head from his neck.

A sound rips through the entirety of the town, a sound I’ve heard before in clips and newsreels when the aliens brought our major cities to their knees. The ground shakes beneath me, trembling as if the earth itself is afraid of such destructive power.

“Milo!” I scream into the sound, knowing there’s almost no chance he can hear my voice over the roar of noise.
