Chapter 42: Hit Them With Fire

NORI’S POV

It’s no surprise Milo chose these four to accompany us onto Spanish land to fight aliens for the first time. He opted for strength and experience in battle. I try not to show that I remain untrusting of Daichi and Ambrose, Weston’s two closest flunkies.

They mostly try to act as though they didn’t do the former princeps’ bidding like obedient toads. They left us on the field once, utterly abandoned, because they were told to. It may look like I’ve forgiven, but hell will freeze over before I’ve forgotten.

Bilbao looks like any other city on the planet now. Its buildings have toppled. Concrete dust floats heavily through the air and coats surfaces so thickly it looks as if a gray moss is growing up the ruins. We leave footsteps where our feet disturb the grime and Milo keeps repeatedly blowing into the barrel of our homemade weapons, assuring they’re not clogged with particles.
