Chapter 46: Me, The Altar Boy

MILO’S POV

That’s weird. I haven’t thought about Tobiah in a long time. I hope, after he was discharged, he found some peace. I hope he went back to ministering to people, rediscovered his ability to look into the hearts of men. I hope, but I admit I’d be surprised if it were true. War damages people. It lets out the darkness we didn’t know we were hiding.

Look at me. I’m walking proof. Before this war I was a smooth cheeked altar boy whose main goal in life was to grow my father’s construction business and find the kind of girl my mom would approve of, preferably with the kind of physique I would approve of. Now I’m a walking, talking corpse that sometimes goes into beast mode and becomes a killing machine.

And the girl at my side? I can’t say she’d be my mom’s top choice. However, I’m experienced enough to know that hardly matters. She’s my choice. She’s the name of my happiness. Fierce. Loyal. Her strength forged in the fire. Sensual. Smart.
