Chapter 49: Life Anew

My eyes began to adjust to the light of the sun. I was on my back, so I sat up and glanced around. I held my uniformed shirt and held back my tears as I noticed Lulu crying.

I tried to reach out to her but stopped, knowing I would only add to her pain. After all, my hand would go through her in this cruel world.

We had interrupted the rune for destruction incorrectly. The destruction the rune was pointing to was about the border from one world to the next, bringing us back to our world.

One where Lulu didn't have a physical form to touch, and she knew that the moment she realized we were back on the school's rooftop, where we spent our days talking.

No words came to mind to comfort her.

I fell prey to my tears as I held my hand over my mouth, trying my hardest to keep it together. But they wouldn't stop flowing. My very soul was shattering, knowing I couldn't do anything to help Lulu.
