CHAPTER 34 Gloom

  After breakfast, Adam excused me. The main door had been replaced, so I had some privacy. Someone knocked, and I asked the person to come in. There were no enforcers at my door because of the events that had transpired.

  I was shocked when Margret entered my room. I had stopped calling her Aunty, because she had shown me I wasn't her family. The illusion needed to stop. She didn't support me when I needed her to, and I had to fend for myself.

  "How may I help you?" I asked her, and she had tears in her eyes.

  "Desiree, please, they are going to kill over a hundred moons today. You have the power to liberate us," she cried, went on her knees, and I shook my head.

  "I did my best, Margret, " I said, and she looked at me because, for the first time, I didn't call her aunty. "Yes, I did my best," I continued.
