Chapter 24

He shrugs. "It wasn't worth staying. I…" We stop walking and he looks at me. "I was missing you."

I chew on my lip and consider what I'm about to say before I say it out loud. "Hey, um...I think I love you?"

We stare at each other, and then he smiles and brings me in for a kiss. A few seconds later we separate and he says, "Let's get something to eat."

I wake up in a big bed. Morning sunlight comes through the window. I sit up and look around. This isn't Bellegarde Manor or Sterling's New York apartment. I have no idea where I am, and Sterling is nowhere to be seen.

"Sterling?" I call out. No answer.

I put on a robe and walk outside to a balcony. Less than a mile away, the Eiffel Tower reaches up to the sky. Then I feel Sterling's arms wrap around me from behind.

"How the hell did I get to Paris?" I whisper.

"You fell asleep after dinner, and I thought I'd surprise you."

I stammer and blubber sounds that I want to be words. "I, buh, howha…"
