Trusting no one.

The weather was all but friendly as the trio groaned, each a distance away, in the long elephant grass. The copter that had followed them in disguise of the rescue team had turned out to be an enemy. Bryan held his arm as he tried to lift himself off the ground. The same hand be had broke when he got hit, it really hurts,he groaned.

"Ssh... Stay low..." Hao Ge whispered to Bryan. He too laid in the grass, on his back, making a call.

"Mae? Mae?" Bryan saw Mae at his left just a meter away, silent as a corpse.

"Mae!" Bryan cribbed over her calling her again and again. Despite Hao trying to get him cool down, he continued his frenzy Shaking Mae all over.

"Uhm... Stop...Bryan." Mae suddenly opened her teary eyes as Bryan shook her all over.

He heaved a sigh and fell back next to her, on his back. "I was worried." He muttered as Mae clasped her hand in his and fell back into her meditative state.

"We need help over here." Hao Ge's voice travelled across the pasture as he called for help via his phone. He crawled his way towards the pair, with no visible sign of pain. "Are you guys Ok?" He asked as he inspected them curiously.

"Mae? Wake up please." He said without touching her as the latter responded with a groan.

"We have to move now!" Hao urged them as they all got up with difficulty limping away deeper into the field.

"Let's wait for them here." Mae whimpered as she fell back to the ground again.

"I can't go any further." She cried as she visibly showed her exhaustedness. Bryan of course reasoned it out with Hao Ge before settling down.

"They should be here anytime now." Hao informed the duet in a weak voice.

No one replied or responded as they all had a ache to endure as they awaited the rescue.

Sure it didn't take long.

Two parties converged almost simultaneously as a search began. The wrecked vehicle was a sign anyone from the highway could notice.

"They should be that way, quick follow me!" Old Miss Gindi said after studying the area. There was no blood shed around the area comforting her worries. Berick and his company followed behind the elder woman who was now race tracking through the pasture. No one wanted the police force to identify who had been attacked. This had to be kept a secret, for the safety of the kids.

It was already obvious the cops had traitors double dealing behind the back with Gang lords.

"There!" This time Jane was the first to shout out as she saw the color indifferent to the environment. Sure it was the victims.

"Bryan!" Old Gindi called out as immediate as she saw him. The three who had hid in the grass sat up right as their rescuers came lifting them off the ground.

"Hope this doesn't hurt much. We need to get out of here before the rest arrive." Jane helped old Miss Gindi level Bryan's weight as she too supported him, all making out of the fields.

From here on they had to separate, to convince the police into a whole new story. That was what the planned.

As they hurried off, towards the road, someone was busy rampaging Jane's police car. He found nothing of importance to him as he saw the returning party.

His job was just to tail behind, so he did nothing more after trying to get any information from Jane's car. The men approached quickly as he hid making his way fast, back to his own tailer as Miss Old Gindi's driver came back slowly from the hideout.

"Get in the car." Inspector escorted them all to Old Miss Gindi's car as he decided to be left behind, to divert any clue leading to Bryan or Mae. They had a believe that that was the right thing to do for now.

"Jane, get inside." Miss Old Gindi said halfway into the car. She wanted Jane to accompany her back to the highlands. "There is enough room for you inside here." Miss old Gindi added as Jane looked back at Berick who had decided to follow behind on Bike.

"Jane!" Old miss Gindi shouted as Detective Jane rushed over and took the seat next to Mae. This made Berick look at her suspiciously. Inspector Joe at this moment drove out in the opposite direction as the rest headed to Thika.

The white van was silent for a while. The guard who was driving them turned on the radio without anyone's consent as the breaking news ran into their ears. This morning the Governors wife was announced dead after the Governor had been attacked overnight, his daughter was declared missing, kidnapped by the bandits.

The announcer also said something about the missing girls across the country being related to the Governor who was already arrested. Though the broadcaster said it was suspected that the Governor was behind the kidnaps, the news that the bandits had tried to rescue him out of Angel police station proved that he worked with them too.

At this point Mac Hugh's voice sounded over the radio as he gave accounts about this case. He started from the accident before the infamous terror leader Jeremy Kolagi was liquidated.

"Turn it off." Miss Old Gindi said as she turned back to Mae.

"It's going to be ok princess." She said as Mae broke down. Berick had texted her earlier saying her mother had gone into coma, now she knew the truth. Her glorious family was now a dishonor. She wondered of her brother. Where is he? Is he ok?

Bryan pulled her into his braze as she burst into tears. At this moment Jane was touched. She had gone beyond the limit to even harass the Governor's apple just to gain information. She felt sorry for her. A message popped on her screen as she was lost in her thoughts, she regretted choosing Mae as her centre of hatred, the girl was innocent. Berick zoomed past them and drove in the front. Behind them a car, one that looked just exactly like Joe's except the color being the opposite drove behind, not over-taking.

'Erick!' Jane cursed as she read the message secretly.

'I'm right behind you. Take Bryan down once you have the chance.'

To hell with it! Jane cursed the mission as she deleted the message. She had not joined their Gang but they kept ordering her around. She looked behind at the car that kept a good distance and shrugged.

It was almost dark when they arrived at the huge Gindi Mansion. No one had suspected the vehicle tagging behind as they drove in past the huge gates.

This was the second time Jane had stepped inside this kingly world. Her eyes travelled across the area. The mansion was build on such a scenetic position giving the residents the view of the beautiful countryside. A pair of guards guided them in as another guarded the door.

"Mrs. Yumaa." Miss Old Gindi called her over as she whispered into her ears.

"Has Abi returned?"

"No Missus. But Earlier after you left she was seen in the village with a young man, the guard said he's name was Marcos." Mrs. Yumaa whispered back.

"Please feel at home." Miss Old Gindi welcomed them as she noticed Jane taking a secret glance at her.

"It's been a bad day, let's ease everything up." Miss Old Gindi welcomed them as the maid brought in water for them.

"You can leave, we shall serve ourselves tonight. Thanks for you service." Miss old Gindi let the maid retire to rest.

"Thank you missus." She bowed kindly as she left the room.

"Mae. You have to be strong." Jane patted Mae on her shoulder not expecting a response as she took a seat at the furthest corner. Something felt odd.

"Bryan, take her to the guest rooms." Mrs. Yumaa advised him. "Ok. He responded as he guided her out.

Just as Bryan was leaving with Mae up the stairs, Miss Old Gindi changed from soft to hard.

"Jane! Tell us why you have been corporating with Kolagi!"

Berick sat erect. This is the part he too wanted to hear.

The silence was dead for a second.

"Jane. Tell us why!" Miss Old Gindi glared as everyone in the room looked at her, wanting an answer too.

"I never corporated. I was investigating the case of the missing girls, my younger sisters went missing too." Jane tried to pull herself out but Berick's face showed discontentedness.

"You should trust me, I was working with Joe on this." Jane continued.

"Please trust me matriarch." She added after noticing no one was taking her story in.

"What about Erick?" Mrs. Yumaa asked. Though she was Yumaa's wife, and Miss old Gindi's personal maid, there was more to that that the world didn't know.

"I'm asking, you even dared spy on us when we visited the market that day, with Abi." Mrs. Yumaa accused her.

"And you killed the guards back at Katumo's home." Berick added.

"No no no... I didn't kill anyone like what you trying to mean. Trust me. Joe shot them all."

"I'm not going to take your story, the reason Joe accepted you to accompany us in this is that I asked him to deliver you to me. Alive!" Miss old Gindi said as the guards standing outside the door rushed in.

"Miss, Inspector Joe is here!"

"Let him in." Miss old Gindi allowed them to let him in as she pulled a gun and threatened Jane.

"Did I have to waste my money educating a weasel? This how you pay back?"

"Please trust me matriarch... Is not what you think." Jane begged as Joe was brought in too, his hands tied to his back and his mouth gagged.

"Do you know who is Bai Songyi?" She asked as Mrs. Yumaa took out a gun from under the table too standing facing Berick who too at this moment was confused.

"Don't move." Mrs. Yumaa warned Berick as miss Old Gindi's voice domeered over.

"She was my only sister.!"
