Meeting the family

"I'm taking you to my hometown," Chris reveals to me as we drive on the highway leading to Green Port.

I place my phone on the hoverboard of the car to give Chris my full attention. "I thought we are going to a holiday destination."

"Yes, Green Port is my hometown." His eyes stay focused on the road.

"Great" My enthusiastic tone didn't match how I am feeling inside. I am going to meet his family. All my insecurities started messing with my head. What if they don't like me? What if his parents think I am not perfect for their son? Small-town folks can be judgmental.

"Adeline," Chris calls my name softly. He located my hand that was pressed beside me on the seat. And squeeze gently. "You look nervous" he balanced his gaze between me and the road as his eyes roam over my face to figure out my emotions.

I clamp my hands together. "I am fine, just jinx up a little. I get nervous going to new places." I tell him.
