Into the Second Layer's Sacrificial Ground

Cain's aloof expression softened into a small, deliberate smile as he gestured for the Night Prince to ease his tense stance. His voice was calm, even soothing, as he addressed the man whose fury had shaken the dream dimension just moments ago.

"There is no need for an apology, Night Prince," Cain began, his tone measured. "As for the secrecy, it was necessary. I had to convince Lady Azure that I had killed Zafira. I trust you understand why such a façade was required in order for me to earn the women's trust and become a better spy for you."

The Night Prince studied Cain in silence, his sharp gaze betraying the calculations swirling within his mind. Beneath his composed demeanor, he was deeply impressed—and slightly unnerved. He was not a fool and understood that the real Cain went through all that trouble for the reward the old Anima would grant him.
