While the rest of the group raced toward safety, Cain suddenly skidded to a halt. He spun around and charged back into the inferno of the hall full of flaming statues ready to kill him, leaving Elrick and the others staring in stunned disbelief.
When the Peak Divine Transcendence Masters realized what Cain was doing, their eyes flickered with meaningful light as they exchanged uneasy glances. They had witnessed enough of Cain's movements to know he never acted without purpose. For a split second, the notion of following him crossed their minds, as they wanted whatever that young man was after.
However, the sight of a dozen maniacal flaming statues roaring toward them with lethal intent banished that thought almost instantly. With no other option, Elrick, Auron, and the rest flashed forward, crossing the portal and abandoning Cain to face the hall's fury alone.
