There is no such thing as a hero

One week later

Gabi was running through the dark eerie woods, the heavy wind blowing through the trees making it whistle throughout the whole woods.

( Shit! It's getting away.)

Gabi punches the ground with his fist, infusing curse energy into his palms to create a bigger destruction on the ground. When big chucks of concrete broke into pieces he grabbed two of them and aimed them at the attacker's legs. The white-haired boy cock his arms back then went to acceleration next deceleration afterward follow through by putting all his strength with it as it was in the air the hefty wind took control over the chucks of concrete bringing it in a fast motion towards the culprit's legs. Once he threw it Gabi quickly went into high ground using the trees to help him move around, the teenage boy was leaping from tree to tree like a frog hurrying his pace to catch the foe he'd been chasing all night.

When the attack that Gabi sent to the person was close to his the enemy sensed it and countered it by dodging it. When Gabi's enemy thought he was in safekeeping the person started to laugh at Gabi's weak mindless attacks but soon he was met by a pair of feet in his face. When Gabi made contact with the person they both fell down the steep hill encountering hard rocks hitting/ bruising their bodies.

" Fuck." Gabi groaned as he got up along with his foe.

Both of the injured boys stood up in their defense position ready to attack each other. "Why did you do it?" Gabi gritted his teeth facing the person who disgusted him.

The enemy let out an amusing chuckle, " Cause why not." The person had a smirk glued to his face.

" How can you kill innocent people and laugh afterward?!" The teenager raised his voice at the deranged man who was standing in front of him.

The man changed his stance into a boxing style, " After I hammer you around I hope that answers your question," The guy didn't wait for Gabi to reply he charged right at him at full speed using his hands as a deadly weapon. He let out the first jab towards the boy's face but Gabi countered it back doing triple backflips to create a little distance between them when the distance was there Gabi used this chance to do a sweep kick on the man causing him to lose his balance.

"Kōsatsu no Tsuru," He bitterly mumbled and vines broke free from the ground wrapping around the man's wrists and ankles making his position look like he was about to get crucified by an angry mob.

( He's not the head, he's just a lackey. There's no way this man can kill a great amount of sorcerers and humans within the weak. He's just weak. If I were to place him in a sorcerer grade book it would be grade 4th. Who can be the leader?)

As Gabi was in deep thought the man laughed at his pitiful state trying to think. " No matter if you kill me now the crimes will continue, you sorcerers who think that you're better than us because you save people, at the end of the day we are all killers but you people swear you do it for the sake of the people." The man spat on the boy, " We are just alike so stop trying to justify your actions. HUMANS OR CURSES THEY ARE THE SAME THING. WE ARE BOTH KILLERS!" He yelled out loud to make sure his message got inside the teenager's head.

( For as long as I can remember I don't think I ever say I was a good person. Would a good person kill to get stronger? Would a good person kill their mother? Would a good person enjoy killing their mom? I tried to forget that situation for as long as I can remember. I tried to forget the satisfaction I got after that. I know deep down I'm not a good human I did a dreadful thing and I walk around deceiving others as if I'm a saint but the difference between me and them is I know what I did was wrong and I can't justify my actions so I atone for my sins in other to help others. I will never be like him, I will never kill for pleasure because I'm not that type of person.)

Gabi faced the man with a glare shutting him down, " One thing about humans and curses, humans only purpose isn't killing, unlike curses. Humans have a more meaningful purpose in life such as achieving their goals/dreams, leaving a mark in history, and many more. Curses don't have that; they only want other lives. Although humans are not perfect, I would rather save them than mindless monsters. "Gabi gripped on the man's throat, " Who else is working with you in this sick mission of yours?" Gabi spat on the man, "WHAT ELSE YOU PEOPLE ARE PLANNING TO DO?"

Even though Gabi's death grips the man, the man is still able to let out his cheeky smile, "You will never…." The arrogant bastard never finished his sentence because his body exploded in front of Gabi, blood and ripped-up pieces of flesh painted the boy's face. Gabi stood there being in a state of shock not quite understanding what just happened.

(Where did he go?)

Gabi was left standing there above the man's clothes. Minutes had passed by and Gabi hadn't left that spot he would probably stand there longer but he felt a pair of gentle hands wrapping around his body from the back.

" Hey Gabi, let's go home." A smooth voice calls out to him taking him out of his state.

The boy cock his head to the side to see his girlfriend, " He just disappeared out of nowhere," He muttered.

Makima unwrapped his arms took out a handkerchief and started to wipe the blood spatter on his face, " I handled it, I even got his friends. Let's go home." She said gently as a smile tugged on her face. After she finished cleaning up his face she held his hand and was walking up to the hill heading back to the main road but as they were walking Gabi noticed five bodies on the ground without any battle marks on their bodies.

(I know Makima is strong but normally when she fights her enemies are always left with scars… wait a minute she handled the guy I fought but how when she wasn't even near me and he exploded in front of me, what did she do?)

Gabi loosened his grip out of her hand and stayed put, Makima was unsure what was going on. " What's the problem, Gabi?" she asks him.

" How did you kill them?" He blurted out the question that's been running through his mind.

Makima tilted her head to the side not understanding why Gabi asked her that, " I just did it…" She innocently said.

( As always. A woman with a few words to say.)

" I mean how. You weren't with me and the man just exploded," Gabi pointed at the five corpses near them, " Where do they come from?"

Makima let out a big sigh because she knew he wouldn't drop it if she didn't explain, "I used those five to catch the people we were looking for this past week. To catch the five enemies I sacrificed five people." She nonchalantly said with an emotionless face.

As she said that Gabi's stomach stank in he wanted to ask her another question but he knew he would regret it once she answered him but he went for it anyway, " Were they innocent civilians?" He asks her the question while looking at the ground not ready to see her face.

Makima shrugged her shoulders, " I don't know Gabi. I just couldn't walk to the prison and ask for five people. I just picked them out since time was running out."

( How can she say it like it doesn't mean anything?)

"So what's the point of taking out criminals when we use humans to do the work? You just stooping low like them, Makima." Gabi finally met eyes with the girl.

" Sacrifices need to be made to save the greater good and I will do it again. Five people over 50 who had been killed this week. What's the problem with that?"

Gabi shook his head in disbelief that someone he cares for deeply does something like this and has no guilt over it. " Those people might be innocent and have a lot of things to do in life before their time was up. They are still people, Makima, that's the problem," He argued back with her.

Makima sighed again at her chevalier boyfriend, " Gabi we are not kids anymore as soon we are a part of this world we must make choices. We aren't necessarily heroes, Gabi, we can't save everyone. We do what we think is right on our side." Makima started to walk away, " It's getting late come on," She said as she opened the car door for him.

Gabi does not agree with Makima's actions but he can't lie and say she is wrong. As sorcerers, we have to make hard choices even if we don't want to. Although Gabi tried to break out of that mindset that Makima had he knew deep down he couldn't.
