After that incident, 6 days passed by and within those 6 days, Gabi and Makima's relationship has been on hold. If you want to be stereotypical in their relationship Gabi is the female who somewhat ignores their partner while Makima taking the role of the male and trying to see what Gabi's problem is, well she did but gave up but not entirely. The two are still fresh when it comes to dating and not that experience in the real world when it comes to feelings, etc but one thing is for sure they do care for each other dearly it's just hard for them to communicate those deep feelings such as confessing to one and the other of how they are in love with each other. Unfortunately for the two, they couldn't talk to each other due to obstacles in the couple's way.
Gabi pov
For the past week places in Japan have been going crazy from animals migrating to places where they usually don't go, more curse spirits attacking public places such as malls, schools, etc and lastly, certain sorcerers have been disappearing. Gabi was all over the country helping with everything he could do to save the people who couldn't defend themselves. As we speak the white-haired boy is hunching back walking at the same speed as a turtle to Ms. Bushdia's house after doing an all-nighter to exercise the spirits who are endangering the non sorcerers. When he made it to the front steps Ms.Bushida sensed his presence rushed to his aid and brought him into the house for him to rest up.
" Gabimaru, I understand you want to save people but how on earth can you save others when you're looking half dead!" She scolded the boy for not taking proper care of his health.
Gabi went on his twin-size bed enjoying the comfort the mattress brings him, " I know, I know. It's just that a lot has been happening lately and I don't know why, I just have a bad feeling something is coming."
Ms.Bushdia sat on the edge of the bed keeping her sights on her son, " You feel it too? The news spoke out earlier about how they found a brown bear in the streets of Tokyo running away from something but they couldn't find anything."
" You see? Why would a bear run away from their own environment where they feel comfortable to just go to the city? Something is up." Gabi added on to their conversation.
"Well, whatever it is, it can wait. You need to rest and you will not leave this house until I see color on your face. You look so pale, boy." She plucked his forehead and left the room.
Gabi rubbed the area where his mother attacked him, " Geez. If I'm sick why would she hurt me? Women these days." He mumbled to himself because he knew if the older woman heard him he would get more than pluck to his forehead.
( This week I was hardly able to connect with my curses. I know I didn't lose them because I am still able to use them in combats and I can feel their presence within me. But why can I not communicate with them when I'm asleep? Higanbana will have the answer to this but I can't even talk to that sinful woman.)
Gabi couldn't do much but sleep since he's been lacking sleep this week due to the abnormal behavior taking place in Japan.
Makima pov
As Gabi was in Ms. Bushida's home sleeping his troubles away, Makima was the opposite she wondered what to do to be on good terms with her lover but she still didn't know how to do it because she didn't believe what she did was wrong. Makima started to question her mindset thinking if the way she sees things can be inaccurate. The redhead girl is in the school library to use the school computer to get an example from online to figure out how she can make amends to her lover without being caught by anyone. This week only taught Makima how she grew attached to the white-headed freak who captured her heart and every night she felt uneasy going to bed knowing she wasn't on good terms with him.
( Why does he have to be so difficult? I don't see why he doesn't get the bigger picture. Is he really that hurt because 5 useless humans died? )
Makima rolled her eyes at herself mentally wanting to slap Gabimaru for making her do some research to fix their problem when it was his fault for being sensitive from the beginning.
" I swear…" Makima let out an angry mumble.
As the red-haired girl was getting into deep research she was soon to be interrupted by a person who always irks her nerves the most and that's no other than the hyper Yu himself.
"Makima!" The black-haired boy grabbed the annoyed Makima's shoulders as he yelled in her ears to the point her eardrums were ringing due to the loud noise. The girl quickly closed the page she was on and faced the boy with a glare glued on her face showing him that she wasn't in the mood for his nonsense.
(I'm losing my touch. I didn't even notice him because I was so focused on Gabi.)
"What do you want Yu? Wasn't you supposed to be on a mission with Geto?" Makima asked him a question but she wasn't keen on finding out the answer because she didn't care either way.
Yu sat next to the red-haired girl," Awe, you care about me?" If eyes can change shapes you would see hearts coming out of his sockets.
Makima sucked her teeth, " Don't flatter yourself I'm not interested. "
( I only have eyes on one person although they are being a pain in my ass right now.)
Yu bitterly chuckled to himself, " I see. You are only interested in Gabimaru."
Makima surely didn't care about hurting his feelings, " If you know why you put yourself in this position? You are only asking to get rejected more."
" Maybe because I hope you would change your mind." He muttered.
After he said that something in Makima snapped and she was beyond annoyed at this point. "Sorry not sorry to burst your bubble but I'm not."
"He has been outcasted. You are wasting your valuable self on …" Yu couldn't even finish his statement.
Makima slammed her hands on the table to shut him up and stared into his eyes like she was looking deep into his soul. The normal emotionless expression she showed wasn't there; her face was dark and soulless as if she was ready to kill someone. Yu knew he crossed the line and didn't dare say another word because this was the first time he ever saw this look on her face. "Don't" was all she said and it was more than enough for Yu to get the message. He nodded his head signaling her he won't push her buttons no more and Makima took her leave. She had gotten up and was walking away from the library feeling an intense heat taking over her body. The girl was trying to go to her dorm room but her field of vision was getting blurry.
( No not again. Why do I feel so sick? I have been feeling this way for a couple of days.)
Makima tried to walk further but she couldn't. Even the strongest people need rest when they overwork themselves and Makima was feeling the outcome of it. The girl's body was weak but she was fighting against her body, the stubborn girl didn't understand the sentence 'give up' because she would never surrender. Ever since she was a little girl whatever her mother threw at her Makima excelled at it and she's not going to stop her winning streak now.
( I'm almost there)
She tried but the girl kept on going and soon she encountered someone she didn't want to see. Other than Yu it's another person whom Makima started to dislike just by looking at their face but it wasn't because the person bothered her it was something else and that is jealousy.
" Makima, you look pale." Shoko went up to the girl and Makima tried to shoo her off.
( I don't need you to see me in this state.)
" Yes, I'm fine." Makima tried to sound as if she were fine but her voice failed her. The red-haired girl sounded hoarse and Shoko knew she needed help. Shoko took the girl to a nearby bench and put the ill girl down and she was right next to her.
" I have never seen you like this before. What happened?" Shoko's face became worried about the girl's health.
( I don't know. It just comes and goes and this has been happening since 4 days ago.)
" Probably caught a cold." Makima kept her answer short and simple.
" Yes, a bad cold I could tell. Do you want me to call someone to bring you to your room? I wish I could but you know I'm not that strong to carry you. I will call Gabi" Makima snapped her neck so fast to face Shoko.
( Gabi? Why is she calling him by his nickname?)
" I see you too are close." Makima started to investigate wanting to see how close they were.
" Not as close as you two. I feel like you two have a different bond." Shoko replied but in her tone, you could hear how gloomy she sounded.
" I suppose…" Makima answered the girl.
As Shoko took out her flip phone to call Gabi she built up the courage to ask Makima something, " Hey Makima, do you perhaps like Gabimaru ?"
When Shoko dropped the bomb on Makima, she froze in her spot unable to reply fast making herself suspicious.
" I take your silence as a yes." Shoko giggled at herself as she stared at Gabi's phone number. "Who would've known that Makima the ice queen girl and I would have something in common?"
( I knew she liked him. I wasn't going crazy over anything)
" If you like him then treat him right. Gabi is a sympathetic person who cares for others even though people look down on him, he deserves the world and if you can't show him the love he deserves then don't get involved with him." The gentle voice Shoko always uses on others turns stern towards Makima.
Makima clenched her fist together wondering what Shoko was implying, " And you're saying that he doesn't need me in his life? Why not because you can do better than me?" The red haired girl was hostile towards the short-haired girl.
Shoko sighed at the girl, " Yes because you don't know how to express yourself. You have been a cold hard shell towards everyone and your god complex doesn't help you either since you believe you're better than everyone. It's funny how you magically broke your guard for him, what do you even know about love?"
Shoko hit a nerve there because Makima was fuming on the bench and she never let herself lose her cool because nothing ever matters to her but to have a person telling her how she lacks as a person and is unable to give the person who she loves happiness stung her. As she was about to respond she threw up on the ground puking up everything in her stomach. Shoko jumped up from her seat and started to rub Makima's back to give her comfort.
" You need to relax now in your bed," Shoko instructed the girl but Makima waved her off. Shoko was about to discard Makima's warnings but Makima stood up straight leaving the scene.
( I hate to admit it but she's right. I need to tell him how I truly feel although I don't know how to put it into words.)
Makima puked up her sickness and went to the place where the boy was located.
( As if I will have an incompetent girl like you steal my gabi away.)
Gabi pov
Gabi woke up from his nap and felt better compared to before, he walked out of his room to go to the kitchen where he smelled the delicious food his mother made for dinner. He sat on the stool by the island table and watched his mother's movements as she cooked.
( It's nice to be around you Mom. I wish you was the one who gave birth to me because I am grateful to have you.)
Ms.Bushida turned around and was met with warm eyes, " I see you up now because we have a guest." She enthusiastically said.
( Guest?)
" Who…" Gabi stopped himself as he saw the red haired girl coming into the kitchen.
"Hey, Gabi." Makima showed her beautiful smile she only showed it to him.
This made the boy flustered because her smile was one of a kind and Ms. Bushdia was in the corner loving the view of Kenji's daughter and her child dating. Once Makima broke the news to Kenji, Gabi thought his life was going to be endangered but he was completely wrong Kenji cried and he was finally at peace knowing his daughter still had her humanity left to fall for someone and he was glad that it was someone who he trusts and Ms.Bushida was overjoyed and ever since then, she would always ask Gabi about Makima.
"Umm, hi." Gabi shyly replied and Ms.Busdhia threw a rag at him for giving Makima a dry response " I didn't raise no asshole. Show Ms.Saito some respect" the older woman scolded him for the fifth time. Since Gabi didn't want to hear his mother's mouth he pulled out a stool next to him "Come, the food is almost ready." he invited the girl to sit next to him and she accepted it.
Makima pov
Dinner went on fast and the three of them were eating the delicious food and talking about anything. Makima never experienced family dinner until now, she sees how Gabi's eyes sparkle in the kitchen light when he talks to his mother. She loved how Ms.Bushdia treated her as if she was her daughter and she kinda wished she was her birth mother. This was something that she would remember for the rest of her life. Gabi excused himself because he needed to use the bathroom and noise left with him as silence took over when it was only her and Ms.Bushida. It wasn't an awkward silence but a comfortable one which she enjoys.
" I was finally able to see a smile from you Makima and I'm so grateful you are in Gabi's life. He might be a handful but he's a good kid." The older started a conversation.
Makima smiled at her comment, glad to hear someone actually loved the idea of them dating, "He is a good person. He's too good for me." Her smile faded away, " He changed my perspective on a lot of things. I'm lucky I have him but I feel like I can never give him the things he needs." She announces her doubts to his mother.
Ms.Bushida tilted her head surprised that Makima was opening up to her about her insecurities, "We all lack something that just makes us human but the fact you know what you lack is a start. Face your doubts and change them for the better. Don't be too hard on yourself Makima, you are a good kid too you just haven't been in good hands. He loves every flaw you have, I can see it in his eyes." The older woman's words gave Makima the energy to face her doubts. Her main goal tonight was to tell Gabi how much he meant to her but she still has yet to find out a way to say it. How can she describe to him how much he impacted her life? How can he put it into words to describe her feelings?
"I want to.." Makima's words came to a halt when the boy got back.
Ms. Bushida made a silly excuse to leave the two alone knowing both of them needed work in learning how to express themselves. When Gabi's mother left it was only two of them alone Makima was stealing glances from him but he was too into his food to even notice.
( What should I do?)
As Gabi took a spoonful of his food and put it into his mouth, Makima gently placed her hand over the free hand.
"Hey Gabi…" She quietly said as she looked the other way.
Gabimaru hummed at her to let her know he heard her. "I'm sorry…I was wrong for using humans as nothing but tools and not treating them right. I'm sorry for being cold-hearted and not understanding the value of life. I'm sorry for letting you down." She muttered but he still heard her.
( I wanted to express my feelings but I ended up apologizing. I'm such an idiot.)
Gabimaru dropped the spoon down and put all his attention towards Makima, " I love you, Maki." He casually said making the girl frozen still scared to look him in the eyes. This whole night she wanted to say that same sentence to him but he beat her to it. The red-headed girl chickened out thinking he wouldn't feel the same way but he did.
( He loves me? Nobody ever said that to me. His voice is full of sincerity and I wish I could see his eyes but I cannot face him now especially because he gave me a nickname too.)
Makima embarrassedly nodded her head as a big smile spread across her face, "Thank you for loving me…" That's all she could say but Gabi knew she felt the same way too. When Makima was brave enough to face her lover the hyper old man Kenji busted into the house causing an uproar in the house starling the two teens and awaking a grouchy old hag.
"KENJI, WHY MUST YOU YELL?!" Ms.Bushida stormed in and leaped in the air kicking the silly man in his face
(Is he really my father?)
Makima wanted to slap herself for being embarrassed about her father. Kenji quickly got up and held down Aiko from hitting on him more, " There's no time for violence woman!" The man yelled again and this time Ms.Bushida stopped herself from beating on him wanting to hear what he had to say.
" Speak now, " She orders the man.
Kenji listened to her and focused his attention on all of them, "It's Geto."
( Geto? What about him?)
" Geto murdered a whole village and now the whole jujutsu world in Japan is after him," When Kenji said that everyone in the house remained quiet wanting to know was the old man pranking them.
( Geto? I surely don't care for him but that doesn't seem like him. Geto is always righteous and always wants to protect those useless humans… I mean people. What would he gain from this? Why did he murder them? Was it really him?)
Unanswered questions were running through her mind trying to figure out why and as she was in his thoughts Gabi remembered their conversation.
Gabi pov
Flashback
" Gabi, I don't see why we must save useless people. You see curses only exist from humans and their emotions so if we want a better life why don't we take out the people who caused these issues."
Flashback ended
( He's really going through with this? How did he get away with this though? Wasn't Yu was with him? Even though me and Yu not on good terms I don't think he would be bored with Geto's crazy plan that's not his character but at the end of the day we could never know a person and who they truly are underneath the mask they show to society.)
But one thing that caught Gabi's mind was his own brother Gojo, he knows what Geto means to his brother and he wonders how Gojo is handling the news.
" I need to find Gojo," Gabi got up from his chair and bolted out the door not caring for their response.
" I hope you don't do anything stupid ." Gabi ran outside in the heavy rain that was creating large pools on the sidewalk making it impossible to run and soon thunder/lightning joined in the weather striking every second in the dark cloudy sky.
" Please don't, Gojo"
