Elite squad

"What's up with that? I mean, I'm supposed to be royalty, right? I should at least be able to exert my power to remove a duke." I couldn't help but sigh at this point.

"Well, first of all, you are royalty who's out of contention for the throne. And secondly, the Duke you are trying to remove is one of the most influential Dukes. So, although you make it sound easy, it simply isn't. I mean, even if you have some kind of dirt on him, we must have solid proof on that. Else, it will just end up being a failure." Jerome replied.

I was kinda frustrated at this point. I mean, I sounded hella confident, but the fact that this is the most I could do frustrates me to a great extent. I mean, I understand the reasons, but it's still frustrating.

"Then what about Reeve?" I asked. I mean, he risked everything to do what he just did. I can't possibly ignore that effort, right?

"Well, helping him out would be impossible at this point of time. It just is. We don't have anything that could possibly get the Duke. Hell, he has more firepower than you have, you know?" Jerome shrugged at that point.

"The hell, man! Who allowed a Duke to have this amount of power?" I couldn't help but ask at this point.

"Well, the Emperor did, since they are gonna be family after all. He didn't want the Duke to go haywire and cause a coup or something." Jerome spoke.

"Tell me, did I do anything to control this guy?" I asked. I mean, Nosir is a complete failure if he… I didn't do anything about that. I mean, what's the point of being a Grand Duke if you can't keep a Duke in check, no matter how influential the Duke is?

"Well, you were the only one. Although your position in the Emperor's eyes doesn't let you have firepower like Duke Myghell does, you do have an elite squad that everyone in the Kingdom fears. So, there's that." Jerome replied.

It was only when Jerome spoke about this that I could give out a sigh of relief. I mean, think about it, what if Nosir was completely powerless? I wouldn't have a base to build upon. And that would have been really difficult for me to work with.

"Ha, at least I did something. Anyhow, let's go back to the point in hand. Reeve. Okay sure, we can't do the killing part now, but we can at least do one thing, right?" I asked.

"Hmm, what are you talking about?" Jerome looked confused at that point.

"Well, his sister. We can save his sister. I mean, even with an elite squad in my hand, if I'm unable to sneak out a little girl from a huge ass mansion, then having the squad is an utter failure, don't you think?" I couldn't help but shrug at that point.

Jerome pondered about this for quite some time. I mean, for an easy question, he did take too long to answer. "I mean, it is possible to do that. It involves certain risks, but we can get it done." He nodded his head at that point.

"Great. Let's do it then. Call in Reeve for now. I've gotta tell him about this too." I spoke, upon which Jerome called in the kid.

"Reeve. Unfortunately it seems like I can't grant your wish." I decided to start with the bad news first, but by the looks of it, it really wasn't the right choice.

Reeve seemed to be in a state of shock. I mean, I can understand. He just took the risk of his lifetime and for the person who could possibly help him say that he couldn't, it would be quite the shock.

"My Lord!" Reeve looked as if he wanted to cry at that point.

Until this point, Reeve was all calm and collected. However, I guess I forgot that he's still a kid.

"Calm down, kid! Just listen to what I have to say!" I had to get out of my seat and shake him back to reality at that point.

I guess it's the elder sister in me that made me do that. I just can't stand seeing a child cry like that, even though it's actually my fault that he's crying. Also, it is quite weird to use terms like elder sister now that I've turned into a guy.

"Yes, my Lord!" Reeve tried his best to handle his emotions at that point.

"Okay, even though we can't kill Duke Myghell at this point, we can promise you one thing. We'll get your sister out of the hell that she's in right now. We'll get her to this mansion or else I'm not the Grand Duke that I claim to be." I was quite serious as I said that.

And it seemed like that worked. "Thank you, my Lord!" Reeve bowed in front of me multiple times. Seeing his sincerity, I just couldn't help but have this feeling of wanting to help him no matter what.

After Reeve recovered his composure, I sent him on his way and once again, it was just me and Jerome left in the very large room.

"So, don't you think that was a bit rash?" Jerome asked.

"What was?" I asked back.

"Well, the fact that you literally put your name on the line like that." He spoke.

"I mean, I didn't put my name in line there, I just placed my title on line there." I replied.

"It's the same thing basically." Jerome shrugged as he said that.

"Are you worried?" I asked.

"Huh?"

"I mean, I don't get it. Is my so-called elite squad so weak that they can't get this done? I mean, it's the second time that you're expressing your doubts about that, you know?" I couldn't help but say that.

"Hmm, I don't know. Why don't you see them for yourself and formulate an opinion?" He asked with a sort of smug smile on his face for some reason.
