Confusion

"Now, why are you smiling like that?" I asked because I really hated how smug he looked.

"Well, for some reason I think that you're gonna be really impressed by this." He replied as he opened the window of my room and just decided to sing a song in random.

I mean, his voice wasn't particularly impressive or anything, but what was impressive was the fact that about six masked people popped out of nowhere as soon as he began singing.

"Yo, what the heck!" I couldn't help but jump out of my seat when I saw that.

"I knew it! You are impressed, aren't you?" Jerome asked.

"Well, your singing sucks and the song in itself is bland as well, so there's that." I chuckled as I shrugged at that point.

However, it seemed like I was the only one smiling. Because in the very next moment, I saw a sword over me and multiple ones across Jerome's neck.

"You! Who are you?" The one who had their sword pointed towards me, asked.

"What do you mean?" I couldn't help but ask.

"Well, what she meant by that is the real Nosir would never say that the song is bland because his mother sang it to him when he was a child." Jerome explained with a smile on his face even when he was surrounded by swords.

"Ah, emotional attachment to the song, huh? But why the hell did I make such a song my signalling tone?" I asked.

"Well, just think about it. Everyone in the mansion knows that your mother sang it to you and they would just think that you're getting emotional thinking about her whenever this song was sung around here. I thought it was pretty smart, if you ask me." Jerome shrugged as he said that.

"Hmm, now that I think about it… It is indeed quite smart of me." I mean, props to Nosir to use such an emotionally invested song on his secret squad, I guess. Wait! "Just a minute. You said elite squad. Are these guys like the spies in my elite squad?" I asked.

"Nah, they ARE your elite squad." Jerome replied, leaving my mind all boggled.

"What the hell? I mean, they are the elite squad? And are they spies?" I couldn't help but continue asking at that point.

"Well, they are not spies. But they do specialize in stealth. We could call them the shadow squad." He replied.

"And everyone knows about their existence? Then what's the point of having a stealth squad?" I couldn't help but wonder at that point.

"Just because you know that something is coming, you can't predict when it's coming. This squad is something like that." He replied.

I mean, he's right about that, I guess. And with that, I had most of my doubts resolved. But it seemed like someone else had a lot of doubts.

"What the hell are you doing?" The woman who had her sword pointed at me, asked.

"Hmm? I just had some doubts and I just wanted to clear those. It's as simple as that." I replied.

"Can't you sense the danger?" She asked.

"Well, let's see. You're still in the state of confusion, aren't you? Like, you don't know what exactly to believe. And the fact that you are confused makes me believe that you won't end up killing me or something." I answered.

"Are you sure about that?" She asked as she slashed my hand. And when I say slashed, I mean a light one. But that was enough to make me bleed though. And it did sting, so there's that.

"Ouch, that hurts, you know? But that just proved my point. You aren't bold enough to kill me." I gave out a smile even though I was screaming inside.

And at that point, the masked woman took the sword away from me and pointed towards Jerome instead.

"You do know that I won't hesitate to kill you, right? So, explain what's going on right now or you will suffer consequences." The woman spoke.

Jerome sighed. "Your lord is suffering from amnesia. He can't seem to remember anything that has happened before." He explained.

"How did this happen?" She asked.

"Well, he was poisoned by something that should've killed him. However, thankfully he survived, but the poison did take something away from him. And that just happened to be his memories." Jerome replied.

And once they heard the explanation, they threw their swords to the ground the next instance and planted themselves into the ground.

"Forgive us, my lord! We suspected you and more than that, we failed to protect you. Please kill us!" They were committed on that. I mean, they looked like they just wanted me to kill them and that sort of loyalty was fascinating to say the least.

"Nah, there's probably a reason for everything. So, I won't kill you as long as you promise me to protect my life from now on." I spoke. I mean, I'm not going to kill the only elite squad that I have, you know? That's mad!

"We swear to protect you, my lord!" Everyone shouted simultaneously.

"So, here's the thing. I'm going to explain why I called you here briefly now. The one who poisoned me is Duke Myghell and I plan to kill him, but I'm aware that we can't do something like that right now, so I'm going to do a favor for the little one that helped me find the culprit. I'm going to save his little sister from Myghell's mansion. And I want you guys to pull that off. Also, I'm planning to re-enter the race for the throne, so I need you to back me up on that as well." I explained.

And once I finished my explanation, everyone turned towards Jerome looking all surprised.

"Ah, I had the same expression when I heard the last bit from him as well. Anyhow, isn't this what you wanted this entire time? You felt like your master was being screwed over by his family and thought that it would be better for everyone if he succeeded the throne, right? Well, there you go!" Jerome spoke.
