Chapter 18: Devil Contractors Ambush

PART 1

"Child of mortality, get yourself in check! What is going on with your hand?"

Providence was right. I didn't understand what was happening to my other hand. A concentrated bundle of some unknown energy started to just emit from it out of nowhere.

"I don't know, it just started to happen out of nowhere, I thought you'll have a clue to what it is at least, Provy!"

The small Celestial flew into the sky as I talked to her, however she had a good reason to do so.

"Devil Contractors, they're very strong. As of now we're dealing with not only them, but their Demons that could possibly be at the rank of Upper A-Classes, but I doubt it."

I froze at that moment, hearing this had led me to believe I would inevitably die here...

"Me and you aren't even at that level, we can die any moment fighting them... we should find a way to escape providence!"

That small ass fairy, designed, celestial ignored me and stood afloat in the sky. Gritting my teeth I was ready to grab her and go, but—

["DIVINE ABYSS!"]

It was as if before, Providence used that same attack to save me, and here she was doing it again.

A bright bundle of Divine energy swirled above her head, formed from a magical circle.

The bundle of divine energy had broken apart and shot in all directions, from left to right, hitting every demon stomping towards our way.

"Begone from my sight demons of purgatory! May you rest in the slumber of nothingness, as I erase you from existence!"

"Gruoooo!!!"

I could hear the demons burn from the divine energy colliding upon their bodies, creating some pretty big explosions.

"I can't move from my spot, just what the hell is happening right now?"

I looked up and something hit me, I finally noticed what was stopping me.

"That's it..."

Providence seemed to have casted her divine abyss warding off some of the demons, but out of nowhere it all seemed to be in vain.

"Ungh!"

That was the first time I heard Providence groan in pain. She was kicked right into the body, and knowing she was small, that kick could've been enough to even kill her... but I didn't let those thoughts enter my head—

"Get me out of this locked position you stupid Origin!"

That's right, my Origin. That same girl I seen hovering above my head was keeping me locked in such a way I couldn't escape.

The reason to why I was unable to move was a mystery, but it spoke back to me.

"I am you, and you are me. We are one in the same, I am an special sort of Origin. My name is Cala, and I arrive from a Heroes Desire, or instead of heroes you can call them Prophecy Childs, but you seem to like Hero more."

"What? You can talk!? Damnit I got no time for this, let me free right now!"

I couldn't move my body still, and knowing Providence was kicked away into some unknown location, it would mean that someone was nearby—

PART 2

"I'm gonna die if you don't free me right now you damn—"

<𝐂𝐨𝐩𝐲 𝐒𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦: 𝐃𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐄𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐲>

My body was suddenly released, inside of my hands I could feel a change. This time around it was divine rather sinister, was this—

"Yes, what you feel right now is Divine Energy. Since we have linked and you awakened your Origin, you can now utilize your true power, which is I."

Feeling the condensed energy in my hand, it was a fiery white glow.

"...I see..."

"Yes, I am Cala, your main ability. I utilize in Copy System, I can manipulate the concept of "Copies", which allows for me to replicate the abilities of others. As of now, you can replicate the abilities of other Origin users, any energy or concepts, and gain immunity to them as well."

Hearing those exact words was all I needed.

Turning around I could hear footsteps coming from behind, some on the sides of me, and even in the front.

"Alright Cala, you're me, I am you. Right now I'm trusting me more than ever to get through this, so that means you count as well."

Above my head I raised my hand.

"Divine Series: Arcane Atomizer!"

I first took on the one in front of me. They were all wearing long dark hoods over their heads which stretched down to their ankles.

Leaping into the sky I aimed my attack at the front one, releasing an wave of divine energy from my hands, however it quickly morphed into a Sphere.

"It seems this human knows the Divine Series, looks we've caught an troublesome one."

The first one I attacked mumbled underneath his voice, I could hear him clear as day, however I didn't know what divine series exactly was, I just copied it from Providence via my copy system.

"Cala what's Divine Series?"

The sphere of divine energy had connected with the devil contractor, pushing them into the ground before an explosion was upheld.

"Divine Series is an series of special divine attacks, only users of Divine energy can use."

"Grrhn... shit!"

I heard the first one I attacked groan in pain, it was an exhausting sight seeing him managing to escape the rest of the explosion, however I could see a leg missing from him once he escaped.

"He managed to damage Orlan, he's no typical prey like those knights we devoured for our demons. I suppose this one will be a suitable meal for them."

"What did she say?"

I heard another one of them speak from behind me, she was talking about their demons...?

"Stop the bluffing, your demons are all dead!"

They all stopped walking forward soon as I yelled those words from my mouth in rage.

"He can hear us? Despite our telepathy he can hear us all..."

Wait what? They were speaking in telepathy...?

"What do you mean telepathy? I can hear you clear as day!"

"Cala, what the hell is going on?"

"I dunno."

"What?!!"

That was a pain in the ass, and unexpected. Then again, I assumed Cala was limited to only understanding what she copied and what I know about.

PART 3

"Human, what are you exactly?"

Another one spoke to the left of me.

"I am Seth. Seth Genesis, I come here to travel into the Mountain of the Gods, my goal is to unite god with men... or rather it's my destiny to do so."

They've all went quite for a few seconds which seemed to be eternity.

"Travel... into the... Mountain of Gods? Humans who naturally cross into the Devil Zone simply wishes to annihilate all demons to expand their territories."

I looked behind me again towards the girlish voice.

"Huh? No I'm not here at all for that, I'm here to fulfill my destiny. That's it."

"Come."

One of them on my other side which I haven't heard yet had walked back to where he came from, and directly into the Mountain of the Gods location.

"No. Not yet, first tell me what did you do with providence?"

The one Behind me had suddenly took something from inside her robe, pulling out providence—

"Is she alive?"

Providence eyes were closed, and from my distance I couldn't tell if she was breathing at all.

"She is alive, but she is knocked unconscious."

"Give her to me."

I asked with a stern voice, I wouldn't believe it until I feel her breathing in my hand, and thus the female approached me.

"...."

As she approached me, everything went quiet again, there wasn't anymore telepathy talk.

"Here."

She calmly said before placing Provy inside of my hand—

Thank God.

"She's still breathing... alright, now where are we going?"

"Can I eat her?"

"What?"

I turned to face the female again next to me who's face I couldn't even see from her robe.

"Tasty... I was saving her to be a snack for tonight..."

I noticed drool leaking from her lips and backed up disgusted.

"Eugh... no? She's my companion you know—"

I stumbled back a few feet until I followed the other guy who offered.

"Man whatever, just take me wherever you're taking me."

I placed providence inside of my Trench Coats pocket, before butting it up so she wouldn't be taken again.

"We are taking you into the Mountain of the Gods. We are sorry for the situation, we devil contractors had promised to only hunt those in search for the need to kill demons, so we assumed you were one of them. We should've asked..."

Is that seriously why? These Devil contractors were seriously so mental.

"Ehhhh, alright? I guess that make sense. And taking me to the mountain will make my journey much easier, so I appreciate this."

"It is no problem."

The one I followed behind had said so, finally walking ahead again. I followed in his footsteps before sluggishly hanging Dàinsleif onto my shoulders.

"Let's get going."
