A hundred calls

Mike spent the whole time it took them to drink the coffee by deleting his calls and voice messages and replying to a couple of texts.

When he was done, he observed the other number calling with almost his same insistence. He could understand why Vera had turned the phone off. It was true the signal was unstable in her house, but it wasn't as bad as to prevent any kind of contact.

The number stalking her was not a mobile, so it could have been from an office. If that was the case, then her bosses were looking for her even while she was mourning. Didn't they have any heart?

He sent a message in her stead, saying she wasn't able to reply at the moment and that she would have called back once the matters around the funerals settled. Mentioning the funeral should have made the trick.

Which human being would force a woman to work in that case?
