Neven made her lie in bed and covered her shoulders with the blanket. She hadn't told him anything yet, but he could guess what was the matter.

The most difficult thing was that he couldn't get angry. Not even by mistake.

It would cause her an attack of who-knows-what, and she would start crying and beg him to forgive her. He couldn't survive that scene for a second time. But hearing the whole story without getting angry seemed impossible.

His heart had burnt when Tom had told him that she was digging up graves to kill vampires. It was a routine intervention, so there was no need for a special agent - without backup, and soon after the funeral of someone she loved, at that - to intervene. That had been the last drop that made him contact the General and speed up his plans.

However, at the agency, they must have misunderstood. He just wanted her to work for him, not a toy or whatever sick idea Vera thought he had.
