Arc 2 Chapter 169 Choice

Over hundreds of C ranked lizards were storming the streets, killing anything they came into contract with. The street where the dungeon break had occurred was completely destroyed. Rubles upon rubles were falling down from the different destroyed buildings. Unfortunate humans who managed to escape the monsters were buried under tons of ruble from the crushed buildings. In all of this there was one man, a blond young hero carrying a giant silver sword, swinging it back and forth bringing justice to the decayed.

Lizards pored out of big piles of ruble that they've made their nest out of and attacked the hero. But they died quickly to the hero's sword skills. His technique resembled more of a dance, then it did martial art, as he cut the lizards inti pieces.

A young girl watched him go from her apartment in awe. Her fist clenched tightly, admiring the hero for all his worth. One day she wished to be like him, a beacon of hope for the less fortunate.

Within a minute of his arrival all lizards had fallen to his blade painting the ground green from the lizards blood.

As the hero wiped of the green blood from his blade, he sensed a pair of prying eyes on him and looked the young girl in her eyes. But he also noticed the people accompanying her and decided to join them, even if it was just for a moment.

The hero known as Minato leaped up on the destroyed apartment and greeted the shocked girl.

"Hello there, my name is Minato, what is yours?" He asked, with his left hand stretched forward, as his right hand was still coward in green blood.

"I'm Seo-Jun, thank you for saving us!" She said, haining a tint of red on her cheeks, making her lean away slightly from the hero.

"No no, I only saved the others, you and your family were perfectly safe!" Minato said and walked past her, sitting down next to Ragnar.

"It's been a while mister hero, you got the neck for this, haha. Hero then, hero now. Just make sure to not get double crossed a third time. Haha" Ragnar laughed while patting Minato's back. This seemed to confuse the house wife and Jun-Seo, while Seo-Jun was pale in the face from how familiar Ragnar acted with the great hero.

"So you knew huh, I guess that's to be expected from beings like you and Ratri. I don't understand why, please tell me, please!" Minato said and Ragnar rubbed his shoulders.

"Listen kid, they followed you because they saw you beat the demon king. They adored you and were thankful for saving their world. They mistook that sentiment for love and made a quick foolish decision, one they couldn't take back. Now in a new world and a longing for home growing stronger and stronger, they refused to blame themself and you became a pilar they could rest their blame on. Slowly but surely they grew to despise you until they couldn't stand seeing your face and that's why they said those words. Calling you a good for nothing, coward and all those other mean words before parting ways, going their own path in life. But the worst part Minato, do you want to know what that is?" Ragnar said and took a sip out of his Soju.

"What is it?" Minato said, even though he already knew the answer.

"One day Minato, you might be forced to lay them to rest with your own hands. As their hatred spirals out of control and they no longer just hate you. Now they hate the world, every little difference, every little flaw, or even perfection will could their minds and they will become the demon lords of this world. What will you do then hero, will you do your duty one last time and then fall into despair as all those you've met have. Or will you join them, becoming the very thing you swore to kill?" Ragnar said, chugging the whole bottle of Soju and smashing it on the table, making the bottle splinter and the table break.

The conversation was overheard by Seo-Jun who jumped in. "Lady Lena and lady Tiana would never do such things, right?" Seo-Jun said, looking at Minato who had his head down.

"I see, so that's how it is. Thank you Ragnar for telling me this. I will chose my world over them, like they have chosen their world over me. Is this the price of my greed?" Minato said and looked up from the floor he was intensely staring at, while crying. "Is this the price of my greed, bringing them with me. You know, for once in my life I thought, maybe, just maybe I could have something, be happy. Live for myself and not someone else. I guess I was a fool, but aren't all hero's fools?" Minato said while looking Ragnar in his eyes, while biting his lips hard enough to make them bleed. This made Ragnar grin immensely and Ratri smile.

"Tell me Ragnar, who is it I should be angry at? Is it you, maybe the goddess, or is it the people I protected that betrayed me? Who is it that I should direct this frustration at?" Minato asked, as he stood up, making both Seo-Jun's parents back away in fear. "Who is it I should kill?" He asked, firmly starring Ragnar in his eyes.

"Bhahahaha" Ragnar laughed, making Seo-Jun and her family terrified as he sounded like the spawn of a devil. "You already know the answer don't you? The goddess, she did all of this to you, the others are only her pawns, her little chess pieces. Now, make sure to protect Earth, you can't let her take this world from you too. You need to protect it from her, from her devil spawn. Those two whores called heroines by your own people." Ragnar said and waved his hand in a dismissing manner, hinting the hero to leave.

Minato did just that, he stood up in a hurry and left. The second the hero left, everyone turned their attention to Ragnar.

"Who are you two?" Seo-Jun asked.

"I'm Ragnar Anderson, your neighbor who moved in a month ago, nothing less, nothing more. Have a great day madams and mister Jun-Seo, the Kimchi in the kitchen was delicious!" Ragnar said and left.

(Sometime later)

Due to the destruction caused by monsters Seo-Jun and her family were relocated to a new apartment not so far from their old one.

Seo-Jun sat alone in her room, hiding from her parents. They seemed different from before, they even told her to stop being a hunter. It was to dangerous, what if she died, just like there neighbors. Powerless to struggle against the true predators of the world. But she had refused them and stormed into her new room. How could they tell her to stop, she did this for them. Both her parents were to old and her father was even sick. Months ago he was told that he had cancer and just some weeks later he was fired from his job. So it was up to her to keep the family going. She was an amazing talent, one of the few prides of Korea, she was their hope, she couldn't stop now.

She told herself this everyday, she had to. Each time she entered a dungeon and claimed the life of another being she told herself it was for the best. They have to die, so that she may live! But the truth was, she was scared, afraid of the truth. Deep down ever since that day, she knew the truth. The dungeons, that connected to the tower. The monsters in them, they weren't some mindless dead creatures alive to cause pain. They were living beings, capable of feeling fear, anger and sadness.

(Flashback)

"Now remember the key to a successful exploration is to close your heart to it!" A man cladded in armor from head to toe said, while leading a small group of hunters. He was at the front carrying a giant shield, protecting the newbies from harm. He was the instructor of these little recruits. He was to make sure they knew the basics and could venture into deaths grasp alone.

A younger Seo-Jun walked close to one of her friends when all of a sudden a giant wolf the size of three humans attacked her. It managed to sink it's jaw into her arm, but she quickly punched it in it's ribs with her superhuman strength sending it flying into the wall.

It was pitch black inside the dungeon, so they approached the wall with their torches slowly until they heard a growl and Seo-Jun directed her torch towards it and that's when she saw it. A small pup was standing in front of the gigantic wolf growling at the approaching threats. It threatened to bite, as they neared it, all while trying to protect the bleeding wolf behind it.

Seo-Jun and her friend covered their mouths in shock, but the man leading them walked forward and the wolf attacked him. So he used full force, slapping the wolf hard enough to knock it out, then he stepped on it, finishing the small creature off, before taking out his sword and killing the giant wolf. After finishing he turned to the horrified group and said "Rule one Close your heart to it!"

(End of flashback)

Seo-Jun lifted the power stone over her mouth and dropped it. While telling herself the lie "it's me or them"

The second the stone touched her tongue she fell on the ground and lost her consciousness.

(Back to Ragnar)

"Hahaha, she ate it, she ate it!" Ragnar said, dancing around happily. The truth was, he had mixed with the power stone slightly. She was now cursed, a curse so cruel. She now has a system and that system will give her something really sweet, when she wakes up form her coma that is.

Ratri smiled at Ragnar, as she took of her clothes and climbed into her bed. "I'm sleeping now, you can join me if you want." She said, making Ragnar frown.

"Why would I sleep, unlike you I have stuff to do!" Ragnar said, sitting on the floor of their new empty apartment. There was no tv, no tables, nothing really.

"Suit yourself grumpy boy. Remember we have to keep recruiting people, so don't slack of for to long."

"Yeah yeah, I know!" Ragnar said and got back to meditating.

(Meanwhile)

The sound of sirens echoed throughout the streets as the staff working for the hospitals carried a girl with dark hair. There seemed to be something very wrong with her. Her veins were glowing with a purplish color, creeping out the staff carrying her.

Some days passed and there was no sign of her waking up, but all of a sudden she just sat up.

~Pov Seo-Jun~ (First person)
