Jace had himself covered under his blanket staring at the pictures of sweet Linda over on her Instagram. She was his only crush ever since kindergarten.
He eyes were read from the phone's light, but he didn't care even if it meant burning them till they fall off.
He kept on liking every picture each time he scrolled and noticed she had posted.
'Am I a stalker now, is this how far I have fallen?' he asked himself staring at Linda's picture even longer.
She was a ginger-haired girl with round brown eyes and a cute face that he couldn't stop staring at. She was so hot with a perfectly balanced body and big round boobs to add to that.
She was everything a guy like him would want as a wife.
If only she was his girlfriend, but how would that even work. she was now the most popular girl in Summerville and was dating his rival, Eric Knight the second smartest and coolest guy in the city.
They were perfect for each other.
Sigh,
'Wake up Jace, stop fantasizing about the impossible,'
He placed his phone on the side of his bed and rolled over, pulling away from the huge blanket and letting out his head.
It was already morning and he had intentionally slept in because he wanted to be late for school today.
He was a nineteen-year-old genius with black hair and bright green eyes he had seemed to have inherited from his grandfather. He was a handsome boy, but he was too weird to attract the ladies.
The entire neighborhood knew him because the school couldn't stop giving him credit for how smart he was.
Even he wouldn't believe he was that smart. It had always been a fling for him to just solve equations like a genuine mastermind.
His room had shelves hanging on the wall, all filled with trophies from his great achievements; first place in science contests for three years, first place in math contests for ten years.
But he was tired of all that, he didn't want to be acknowledged as a genius. He wanted a girlfriend, he wanted Linda Karby to be his girlfriend, but it seemed it was too much to ask.
He wanted to scream, but his mom and brother would just shout at him for screaming so early in the morning like an idiot. He lived with his stepmother and elder stepbrother, Luke Harper which was their family name.
Suddenly, there was a loud and harsh knock on the door.
'Wake up, lazy ass! Your boss just called and she's saying you're late,' Luke's voice sounded from the other side of the door.
Jace jumped from his bed and squirmed after realizing it wasn't a school day. Today was a public holiday in Summerville and was also going to be a busy day at the restaurant he worked from.
He had been looking at Linda's pictures for so long that he had forgotten that he was a part job as a waiter.
'Shit…shit…shit,' he cursed looking around for clothes. 'I might lose my job for this. How will I get the money to buy the neon genesis game? Craig, I hope you have a story to defend me.'
As he rushed to dress up. His laptop was still on and was on the reading table. He moved to switch it off but the screen suddenly glitched before he could touch it.
'Strange.'
He said, but he quickly forgot when his brother roared his name from downstairs. He just closed the laptop and ran out of his room.

.
'Welcome to Pearl restaurant, may I take your order?'
He smiled looking at his first customer. He was in uniform and lucky enough he hadn't been fired even after checking in an hour after opening.
The boss had taken a liking to him maybe, he was employee of the month after all.
She was a twenty-four-year-old lady with a very admirable body that would send any man falling once she gazed at him. She always dressed up formally and would make her male employees fantasize about her almost every break they had.
'I will have a cup of tea with your most fresh bread,' answered the customer.
He was in a suit with shades that almost looked like one of those suspicious guys who worked for secret organizations that protect the world from aliens or something of the sort.
Jace stopped fantasizing and noted down the man's order that he then rushed to the kitchen.
He pushed the piece of paper through the window and waited.
Craig, his best friend then approached him. They worked at the same place. He was a chubby half-Asian who had moved from Toronto when his parents divorced. They had been friends for nine years. Craig was the reason why Jace had a social life.
'I can't believe you came in late because you were fantasizing about Linda again,'
'Tsk, you can't prove anything,'
'I can actually, you've been jerking off her pictures ever since you discovered how pathetic you are. Like come on man, Cynthia has a massive crush on you. You know she's attracted to smart guys and she's a perfect ten out of ten,'
Jace said nothing. It's not like he could explain to him that he was looking for love and the only woman he could see his future with was Linda.
Craig patted his back, 'Anyway, the heart wants what it wants.'
They were still chatting when all their phones suddenly chimed at the same time.
Jace checked his phone and seemed like it was an alert message from the American government. And next to it was a video of the presidential address.
Jace quickly played it;
'My fellow humans of the world. I hope this message finds you well, as it is being aired across the entire world in different languages. Scientists have discovered that a comet has suddenly appeared in our airspace and it will be colliding with our world in three days…'
He paused it.
And pulled his apron off.
'I quit,' he told Craig and dropped his phone on the floor as he rushed out of the restaurant.
He then stopped in the middle of the street.
He looked up, and the announcement was right.
There was a giant comet heading straight for the earth with tiny pieces splitting from it and crashing into many other places.
It was moving slowly but he could already tell from the glitching appliances, flickering lights, and the sudden change in weather.
'The world is ending.'
He concluded and he immediately started running back home.
He was only thinking of his mother and brother. Those were the only people he wanted to spend these three days with, if they were the last days on earth then he couldn't imagine spending them with any other.
He ran faster but the air started to feel even heavier due to the shifting gravitational field. The announcement seemed to have ended and the entire city was already in chaos.
With car accidents across the street and people running around shouting
'Repent your sins, or die like the rest.'
Jace thought if this had all happened after the announcement. He could only imagine what was going on in his neighborhood which was on the west side of Summerville.
He couldn't say it was the best city in North America, but he had spent his entire life here and he would hope for anything better.
He reached Rivington street and noticed his house. The blue-painted bungalow was surrounded by garden norms. His mom had a tiny garden and she had put those as a protective measure.
He walked through the front door and the first person he saw was his brother Luke.
'Where's mom?' Luke asked, staring at him.
Jace shrugged looking through the window to check if she was outside.
'Dang it!' Luke cursed as he decided to march towards the door.
Jace stopped him. There was terror in his eyes.
'Where are you going?'
'To find mom,' he answered. 'Just stay here until we come back.'
Jace agreed and let his brother go look for their mother.
'How is this possible? Why is this happening today?'
He remembered the president mentioning that the comet seemed to just have appeared out of nowhere. Because the earth has enough technology to sense such if it was heading towards earth.
He stopped when he heard something falling from up and that's when it happened.
**Boom**
One of the comet's pieces landed straight into his house and caused a massive explosion that destroyed his entire neighborhood along with a small part of Summerville.
Lucky for them not so many people were lost that day despite the comet's particles being able to destroy cities from across the world.
The comet suddenly vanished from the sky as it changed direction and moved past the earth as if it had a mind of its own.
That day was then renamed the day of the great event.

Firefighters and police had gathered around Jace's neighborhood to check for any survivors. They were all being led by Lieutenant Karby as they searched through the wreckage.
Luke and his mom were just outside the police tape that was reading; DO NOT CROSS.
They were both flooding with tears after the sudden incident that may have as well killed the youngest child and destroyed their only home.
Luke felt the most guilty because if he hadn't told his younger brother to stay then maybe things could have been different. He could have been alive right now.
One of the firefighters called after discovering something shocking,
"Lieutenant, you've got to see this,"
Luke looked an noticed that the firefighters were standing around the wreckage of their house.
Without thinking, he let go of his mother and ran directly through the police tape.
"Jace," he exclaimed as he shoved his way through the firefighters until he finally reached his house.
He gasped, after what he saw…
Jace opened his eyes. He could hear faint voices coming from around him. He could see a man in a white lab coat telling him he was going to be alright, he was probably a doctor.
but how did he survive something so fatal? Shouldn't he be dead.?
He didn't stay awake for long because his eyes just suddenly felt heavy and he passed out once again.
The next time he opened them he noticed Craig standing beside him staring at him with a sad face. He wanted to talk but he could barely lift a finger.
Craig somehow noticed he was awake. He looked different, he was older and was dressed in a flashy suit as if he was going for a job interview.
'Hey buddy, it has been a long time ever since the great event,'
'What…happened…to…me?' Jace finally managed to crock out a few words.
'It's been five years Jace. A piece of the comet destroyed your house and nearly killed you if the doctors didn't work as fast as they had. You've been in the coma for five years and the government has been paying for the bills ever since,'
'Where's my mom?'
Craig winced, 'She passed away three months ago from a heart attack.'
Jace felt that, his chest grew heavy but tears weren't coming out of his eyes. She was the one person he was dying to see and now she was gone.
'And…Luke?'
'Luke disappeared five years ago after what happened. He blamed himself for what happened to you and ran away.'
The room door opened and a doctor walked in holding a file in his hand. He wasn't shocked to see that he was awake that only meant that the doctors knew when his coma would end.
'How are you feeling, patient eleven?'
Jace just faced the ceiling. He didn't feel like talking to anyone else apart from Craig.
He then heard the doctor say,
'He's the first one to wake up, fascinating,'
'I am the first one to wake up, are you saying there are others like me?'
The doctor looked puzzled by what he just said, 'Am sorry lad but that's not the answer I was looking for. So let's try that again. How are you feeling, patient eleven?'
Jace didn't understand if he was just hearing things and he was finally running crazy or if his mind was broken beyond repair.
'Am fine,' he answered,
The doctor stood up and looked through the file.
'Your body has incredibly healed naturally even after being burned to the point where you couldn't be recognized. You should be thankful for our tissue regeneration technology.'
'Thank you, doctor,' Craig interrupted, 'when can we leave the hospital then?'
'If he can move, he will be discharged tomorrow.'
The doctor then left his room without saying a word after that.
