Superpowers

The first place he visited once he was out of the hospital was his mother's grave. She had been buried next to William church which wasn't so far from his original place.

He looked at the headstone and he still couldn't believe she had gone. Jane Harper might have not been his real mother but she was the woman who had raised him his entire life.

She was a kind woman who everyone loved and nothing made him happier than hearing the words am proud of you coming from her mouth.

If only he could see her bright blue eyes one more time, or maybe smell the sweet aroma of her cooking. Just one last time, but he couldn't. the poor woman was gone forever.

Just the thought of that made him want to shout out all the pain he felt from within. His family was so broken and this was enough to break it beyond repair.

'I promise I will find Luke and bring him back mom,' he said, placing a bouquet of fresh flowers on her gravestone.

Then made his way back to the black Range Rover that was parked on the other side of the street. Craig hated cemeteries.

They then drove back home to the mansion Craig had managed to construct in five years just for the two of them. He had managed to make one hundred million dollars from a fake fundraising event called "Save Jace" even after realizing that the Government was paying for his friend's treatment.

'I can't believe people funded you to such luxury,' Jace chuckled as he whirled his head left and right.

The place was amazing with glass windows, two flat-screen TVs, a Jacuzzi underneath, and a huge pool just in the courtyard. This place was heaven on earth.

'You would be surprised by how many fans you have from around the globe, smartest kid in the world.'

Jace chuckled softly after hearing that;

'I think am going to keep it on the low as I try to see how much of my life has changed,'

Craig reached for the fridge and pulled out two soda cans that he placed on the kitchen table.

Jace headed to the table and just when he was about to grab his soda. The metal can crashed itself and the soda popped out, splashing all over the entire table.

He froze.

'Did I just…'

'Did you just do that?' Craig had seen all that.

'Oh my god, you have powers!. I knew something awesome had to come from that thing that hit you, it's superhero origin one o one. When did it all start?'

Jace hesitated, 'I…I don't remember…I have been feeling different ever since we left the hospital.'

Craig put both his hands on his head and looked at Jace with disbelief. 'So this isn't the first time?'

'No, it isn't. back at the hospital, I swear I heard the doctor say something without moving his mouth. It's like I was reading his mind, but then he rebuked what I had just said and made it seem like I hearing things.'

Craig just jumped in excitement.

'Telekinesis and Telepathy, dam you're like some superhuman in transition.'

'Maybe…' Jace shrugged, 'I am starting to think that comet,' he made air quotes. 'Wasn't an ordinary comet.'

Craig was just staring at him, Of course, he didn't get it. Craig wasn't as smart as him. He was comic relief from his usual serious life.

"…"

'Do you have images of the comet from that day?'

'Yes, almost everyone has,'

'No, as in satellite images. The ones that were taken by the NASA satellites in space.'

'Of course, I don't have them. I am not some genius like you who for some reason is already adding things up. Let's try taking things slowly by figuring out the origin of your developing abilities,' Craig suggested,

Jace frowned, sighing and throwing himself on the closest couch. He didn't feel comfortable in his skin.

'What is happening to me?' he thought.

He was more worried than excited to have these abilities. That asteroid hitting his house and him waking up five years later couldn't have been a coincidence.

He was smart enough to realize that.

His biggest question was, "Where did that comet come from?" it may be the reason for his powers.

Craig was gone for work since he was a working lawyer and so they had left him home. He had spent the entire day catching up with his favorite anime and manga. He had five years to go through.

*Ding!*

The doorbell was sounded,

'Ugh…who could it be at this time of the day?'

Moving from his comfort zone felt like a waste of his precious energy.

'Hello, Craig, it's me, Linda,'

'Linda?'

Jace jumped from the couch and started picking up the junk he had dropped across the entire floor. He was running from side to side when his body disappeared and he found himself appearing at the front door with the bag of trash still in his hands.

'What the…Never mind,'  he thought, running and tossing the trash in the nearest bin he could spot.

He dashed back to the door and braced himself. Fixed his messy hair, hoping that in five years she would at least find him attractive.

He pulled the doorknob and opened the front door.

Linda was a grown woman now. She was five years older than him and she looked so cute with her hair pulled behind into a ponytail. She was an absolute goddess in his young eyes. Did he have a thing for older women now?

'Jace?'

She hadn't recognized the boy standing in front of her, 'My God, you haven't aged a day ever since I saw you.'

Jace was in his world already. Hearing her angelic voice once again made his blood flow once again. The girl, now the woman of his dreams.

They were still the same height, though he was slightly taller than her.

"The magic of a five-year coma,"

He chuckled nervously as they both walked to the sitting room and settled down opposite each other.

'How have you been these past five years?' he asked,

'Well, I am a professor now at Eden college. I teach philosophy. I found that as my calling after the events of the comet and its particles of it hitting the earth.

'How many particles landed on earth?'

'Sixteen, though ten crashed in the ocean altering the biology of most sea creatures.'

'Maybe it's the particles of the comet that gave me these powers.' he thought as he listened to Linda.

She explained to him how much of the world had changed and how much of it hadn't. First, sea monsters were a thing now and most of the world was poor due to fewer resources and the government-owned almost everything. But she didn't mention anything about super-powered humans.

So he might as well be the very first.
