5. Suddenly Appeared From Behind

On top of the building that had been illuminated by the light of dusk, several people stood with their mouths agape from their shock after seeing the unexpected event below. Moreover, it happened right after Wu Tian spoke with his flag-raising words. He smiled awkwardly.

"W-well, it seems fate is telling us that we should help him."

Meanwhile.

"Yue Han, are you alright?"

"Hey, he doesn't seem alright, okay? Yue Han, can you stand?"

"Yue Han, your face looks pale."

Yan Guge, Long Weiting, and Su Cheng immediately approached and asked Johan worriedly. Even Zhao Huo, who didn't ask anything, had a worried look on his face.

They wanted to ask what really happened, but seeing Johan's condition, they held back the question.

Johan looks to receive a heavy shock. He went limp and fell while trembling. Death was almost upon him, so it was no wonder he was still in shock about what had just happened. A few moments later, the street filled with passersby surrounded him and the truck on the other side. At Johan's side, those passersby had their eyes fell on Johan which made him feel uncomfortable. There are even some people who took their phones and started recording. It made him want to get out of the crowd as soon as possible.

While still feeling his trembling body, Johan tried to grab his friends' hands where they reached out and wanted to help him up.

Some passersby advised him not to force himself, but Johan just waved his hand, telling them that he was alright. Everyone seemed to have no clue how the accident happened. While Johan still clearly remembered what just happened, he couldn't tell the truth or he would be sent to the mental hospital. How could he tell anyone that he saw superman suddenly appear and accidentally save him?

The man's strength was beyond science, beyond logic. Even though it was calculated using any scientific formulas, the answer would not be found no matter how many times one tried. This incident made Johan feel like he was dreaming because it was so unreal.

Although his pale face had started to disappear, Johan was still brought by his friends to his apartment.

They arrived at the 10-story building. That tall building was Johan's apartment. His room was on the eighth floor, and he had lived alone since he hadn't even been to college.

Because at that time Johan was not very familiar with China, he was a little hesitant when he wanted to start a big business. Since he liked to play games since high school, he ended up doing a small business where he played games, then sold game accounts to the other countries which had a higher currency value than China, as well as became a game streamer.

When they went inside, they could see a clean and tidy room. There is a computer with two monitor screens which is attached to the bed, along with other equipment such as an earphone and a pair of sound systems. It was as if the bed was designed for shut-ins.

Johan leaned against the wall while his friends helped him open the sliding glass door that connected to the balcony, letting the evening breeze blow into the room.

Everyone who felt that Johan was feeling better began to ask questions.

"Yue Han, that accident was kinda weird."

"Yue Han, what exactly happened?"

"You scare me, dude. I thought you would die young."

"How did that truck suddenly change direction?"

Johan glanced at his friends. He felt it was pretty weird. He thought his friends had seen everything that happened from the start, he even planned to tell them the truth as his friends should have seen him when the truck was speeding towards him. However, they actually asked him about it.

He put on a serious face.

"You didn't see anything?"

Su Cheng, Yan Guge, Long Weiting, and Zhao Huo looked at each other confusedly.

Then, Yan Guge shook his head and said, "Yeah, things happen but we don't really know why."

The others followed suit.

"I couldn't see clearly because the truck was blocking my view."

"I only saw that truck suddenly make a quick turn."

"It's like a miracle."

What Johan's friend said frightened him. It was clear that Johan didn't step on the main road. They all walked on the sidewalk by the side of the road. So even if the truck was speeding toward the sidewalk, they should be able to see clearly.

"I can't tell the truth." That was on his mind. He didn't think he was paranoid. He clearly saw a handsome man waving his hands and the truck suddenly turned in another direction.

It might sound stupid. However, his gut told him that what happened to his friends' memories was caused by that handsome man.

But maybe he was just way too delusional. He might have watched too many movies, so the illogical things happened and made him believe.

In the end, Johan decided to tell them according to the logic.

"My vision blackened. Since I felt the Death God already waved its hand at me, I couldn't even think to get away when the truck was already in front of me. I had given up at that time, so I didn't really pay much attention to it. It was such a terrifying experience." Johan sighed while his head was down.

Zhao Huo nodded as he understood what he meant.

Yan Guge rubbed his hair. He opened his mouth.

"I see, that makes sense."

Long Weiting and Su Cheng also spoke.

"I might understand what you felt."

"Yeah. It's similar to when I got into a motorcycle crash. I can't remember how it happened even though I was conscious when the accident happened."

Sometimes, the steps of an incident such as a vehicle accident are difficult to remember. Just as when one sees a small snowball in the distance rolling from the top of a mountain, when one notices it, the snowball has already turned into an avalanche. So, they believed what Johan said, thinking that he didn't clearly remember what happened.

"Well, let's just play a game." Yan Guge patted Johan's shoulder. Since that was a bad experience. It was better to do something to forget it.

Johan shook his head.

"I am in no mood to play a game now."

Zhao Huo also thought, after being involved in the incident, he was sure that Johan couldn't calm down. He advised him to relax.

"How about watching anime? Or maybe reading novels as you can read while lying down in bed."

Johan raised his head.

"Novels?"

He's never read a novel. The books he had been reading were just textbooks, which he needed to study. He may have read short stories, folk tales, or fairy tales because they fall under the category of language lessons. However, those are different from novels.

Long Weiting agreed with Zhao Huo. He said.

"If my memories didn't serve me wrong. You love action movies, and your favorite actor is Jackie Chan."

"True. I like his stunts. The way he fought was interesting and funny." Johan just nodded in reply.

"Then, you should try what On Fire suggested!"

He felt someone's feet on his back and suddenly, the foot shoved him to the ground.

"Fu*k! Who kicked this young master?"

"It's me, Diona!"

The one who kicked Long Weiting was Zhao Huo who was displeased when he was called "On Fire."

Then, Zhao Huo, who had a smaller build, wrapped his arms around Long Weiting's neck to lock him down. Even though he was smaller, he was actually stronger than he looked.

"Cough, w-wait little Huo, I-I can't breathe."

"Call me big bro! Also, don't you know, "the young master" thingy tends to be a sandbag for the main character."

"W-who the hell wanna call you big bro when you're just this 'little'? Ack…."

Zhao Huo tightened his clutch which made Long Weiting pound on the floor with his hand signaling his surrender.

Yan Guge laughed so hard. Long Weiting's sloppy mouth was completely insane, his mouth couldn't brake when he started talking.

The behavior of his friends made Johan forget what had happened earlier, it could be seen when he let out a chuckle. As fellow friends, fights like this were common. What's more, it wasn't a serious fight.

After a moment, Zhao Huo turned around, ignoring Long Weiting who was twitching on the floor.

Zhao Huo took out his phone to show Johan a website with a list of novels.

"Web novel? Light Novel? Is there any difference?"

"Simply put, web novels are published through cyberspace, while light novels are officially published in the real world."

"I see."

Johan nodded. It was rare to make Zhao Huo talk much. Maybe it's because reading novels is his hobby, so he has topics to talk about.

Johan copied the link to browse using his phone. But then, something confused him.

"Right, if light novels were officially published in the real world, why are there a lot of light novels on this website? Is it even legal?"

"Dunno."

Zhao Huo put an expression as if he asked him, "If you ask me, who should I ask?" or something like that.

"Well then, I can just pick each one of those types randomly," Johan said inwardly.

Johan's friends didn't stay long in his apartment and just said to rest. They also said they would play again tomorrow if they had time.

Johan started reading a novel while sitting on the floor with his back leaned against the glass door.

His expression somewhat changed from time to time while reading. But most of the time, he frowned.

"What's with this author's thinking? Why did he always write these d*mnable racism sentences? It's like thinking of himself and the people of his kingdom as gods, then thinking of other kingdoms or empires as monkeys or insects. This is horrible. I probably should try the other. Perhaps, starts from a light novel?"

"Oh…So, the story is that bad? It seems my sense isn't too good to assess that novel."

Johan suddenly heard someone's voice behind him, sending chills down his spine.
