Aurianna's breath hitched. 'I'm scared… I'm scared… I'm scared…' Her thoughts spiraled out of control as a primal instinct urged her to run, to escape, but there was nowhere to go. No one else seemed to notice what was happening—no one except Azarath and Barbados, who appeared to be watching them curiously.
'Why? Why is my body screaming at me to run?' she wondered, her eyes darting around the room.
"Do not be afraid, child," the High god said, "I shall not harm you." He released her face gently as his hand moved to pat her head. "There would be no point in killing you, anyway. You'll just revive or be reborn in another world... and I wouldn't want that at all."
Aurianna's heart dropped as his smile grew wider, almost too wide. "After all," he continued, "I will need you in the near future."
