The Death Knight of Alcor

The blue flames that enveloped the death knight went darker and darker, the energy of the blue flames mixed with the necrotic energy of the death knight. The death knight charged at me with such ferocity that it didn't care for its safety.

This death knight is an alcorian swordsman, and when our swords and flames clashed, the impact of our clash sent me flying dozens of meters away, crashing into the walls.

[HP: 3,561/5,676]

Sh*t, just by crashing into the wall, it dealt a lot of damage. So blocking its attacks is not a viable answer, but dodging it will be harder. The death knight spared no time and started charging at me full-throttle.

[Turn Undead!]

Julius shouted out, and the death knight momentarily stopped in its tracks. Turn undead is a low-level cleric spell that critically damages undead creatures. Although it's a low-level spell, it's still somewhat effective at higher levels.

I got out of the wall and took the initiative, finding that it left its defenses open, but when my sword was about to reach the death knight, it reached out its hand and caught my sword between two fingers.

[Lightning Bolt!]

Twin bolts of lightning streaked toward the death knight, but it did nothing. The dark flames around surged in rage and suppressed my flames. Then it threw me toward Julius.

[HP: 2,753/5,676]

"Gagh!"

The death knight charged at us and I got up, grabbed Julius' shirt, and started running away.

"Clarent, I have a plan, but you need to tank for a little while!"

I looked at Julius and saw how confident he was. Compared to me, he's played this game much longer, and he's a cleric, which is a class that directly counters the undead race. Since his class has ascended, he may have an ultimate skill or spell.

"Alright, I'll trust you. Now do your thing!"

"Okay!"

I drop him off somewhere safe and am met with death knight's attacks. The death knight's sword clashed with mine, so I diverted it. I let it slide off the side of my blade.

[HP: 2,613/5,676]

Though I took some damage, this is the most efficient way to block him. As his sword hit the ground, I countered by slashing him in between the gaps of his armor, the flames around my blade condensed, making it bright enough to light the entire room.

Three attacks got through before it swung its sword from the ground up to my shoulder. I stepped back and used the blue flames to defend against his dark flames. Then there was a surge of holy energy as they recited passages from the scripture that belonged to the Helios Church.

The death knight shifted its focus toward Julius as he kneeled there defenseless while holding a sun-shaped amulet in between his hands. I attacked the death knight from behind as it dropped its defenses for a little, dealing a critical hit.

[You've Dealt 3,521 Damage!]

It turned around and swung back at me. But I moved swiftly to the front and dealt another critical hit.

[You've Dealt 3,712 Damage!]

The attack dealt a lot of damage, but seeing as it didn't even flinch at it, probably means this death knight's health is over a hundred thousand, meaning I need to at least land a hundred decent blows to bring it down.

Then, something happened. Gold electricity crackled around his armor as golden lightning burst out of him and arched toward me. I took a step back, and Camilla reacted as the lightning was about to reach me.

[Reaching Shield!]

Reaching Shield a modified version of the shield spell, which can only protect the caster. But reaching shield can protect other creatures. Though it's weaker than the original shield, it's still something that could block a lot of attacks or weaken it before it reaches the intended target.

[HP: 2,513/5,676]

The barrier broke, and the golden lightning reached me. Though it hit me, it only dealt minor damage, as my [Magic Resistance] and Camilla's [Reaching Shield] mitigated most of the damage, but for it to break through her shield means if it were not there, then it would've dealt a lot more.

"Camilla, assist keep using the [Reaching Shield] on me when a lethal attack is about to hit!"

"Yes!"

Camilla's reaction time was not something to look down upon. But her casting speed needs some work, she's the perfect candidate for the magic dealer role I've been looking for in a party, if she's raised right, then she'd easily break through the top 100 wizards in the world within a year.

"Clarent, in front of you!"

Camilla shouted as golden lightning began arching toward me again. I used the blue flames to counter the lightning, and it just split it in half. Camilla did it again, using the [Reaching Shield], and my [Magic Resistance] mitigated the damage.

[HP: 2,484/5,676]

The golden lightning that erupted from the death knight raged across the room, destroying it, and when it calmed down, the dark flames that enveloped the dark knight were now mixed with golden electricity.

[Alcorian Sword style Zemar: Thundering Stride!]

The death knight disappeared from its spot, and the next thing I heard was the crashing sound of thunder, and that, my body crashed into the wall, with a massive cut going across my chest from the top right to the bottom left.

[HP: 50/5,676]

[You've Health in Critical Level!]

The taste of iron filled my mouth, and that attack took away most of my health, but even though it brought me to that amount, it chose not to kill me in one shot, rather the death knight pointed its sword at me, telling me to stand once more.

[Absolute Zero!]

The death knight suddenly was in cased in ice, and Camilla ran to me with a red potion in hand. I tried standing, but the feelings in both arms and legs were gone. They were numb, and I'm in so much pain.

[First Aid]

[Warning! First Aid Cannot Heal You When You're In a Critical Condition]

"Here, drink this!"

Camilla popped open the potion and lifted my head, and made me drink the potion. The broken bones in my body repaired themselves, and the wound on my chest closed. She just fed me a greater healing potion.

[HP: 2,050/5,676]

[First Aid]

[HP: 2,346/5,676]

Using the remaining time Camilla bought me, I healed myself to full health using [First Aid], and I stood up and saw Camilla drinking mana potions, and in front of us the death knight as if it just waited for us, broke the ice prison it was in like it was just made of paper.

"Clarent, I'm ready whenever you are!"

I nodded.

It left me speechless when I saw that skill, the speed, and the power were all there. In one strike, it rendered my entire body useless. One of the heroes during the Gigantomachia update was a single soldier, who the enemies feared because of his speed and strength on the battlefield of giants, Zemar the Lightning Emperor.

There's a saying in the forum that when you fought against a death knight, then that's where you'll attain enlightenment because of death knights being former masters of the arts, NPCs whose name is feared by many.

I held my sword in two hands and faced Zemar, the death knight. Now that I know his identity, my heart raced in excitement. He left me with 50 HP, which means he didn't want to kill me outright, but wanted to see how far a disciple of the Alcorian Swordsmanship can push himself.

"Master Zemar, I, Clarent, the last disciple of the Alcorian Swordsmanship Academy, requests a duel from the Master!"

Zemar didn't speak but held the sword in two hands as reaffirmation. The dark thundering flame around Zemar raged and grew in size, while the blue flames around me disappeared and instead focused on my sword, as the heat made it shine like the sun.

[MP: 1,200/2,222]

The consumption of mana increased, but the power behind this sword is so immense that the necrotic aura in the area started decreasing. From afar, Julius already finished reciting the verses, then a radiant sun appeared behind him and the sound of a rooster could be heard.

[First Day!]

"Clarent, I'm lending you this power for a little, for I'm not suited to melee combat!"

Golden bands of light reached toward me as overflowing power filled my entire body, increasing all of my stats by 100%.

"Here I come, master Zemar!"

Zemar disappeared from his spot again, to deliver the final blow. Because of the major buff Julius gave me, I saw where he was running, enabling me to predict his movement.

In the next moment, our swords clashed, and his flames and lightning assaulted my body, but thanks to Julius and Camilla, they mitigated the damage of his attacks. Zemar knew something was wrong, and when he saw his already battered sword cracking, he already knew that he had lost this battle, but he still dealt a lot of damage just with the shockwave of the clash. Bursting my blood vessels, shattering most of my bones, and destroying a lot of my equipment.

[HP: 100/5,676]

[You've Dealt 20,489 Damage!]

My sword broke his, and I slashed him across the chest, yet it still stood tall. Zemar gathered the flames and lightning into his hands to form a makeshift sword, but I took this opportunity to cut both of his arms off, dealing critical hits.
