Jace had a few contacts of his own. After changing cars, we drove to the mansion using a different route.

I stayed quiet while Jace drove and would check on me from time to time. I know what he was thinking.

He was worried about me going back to the mansion. The image of Mimi's and her mother's dead bodies flashed in my mind's eye. I gripped the seatbelt a few times but remained calm.

Letting Jace know what was running inside my head wouldn't be healthy for him or me.

But I also needed to ease his worries.

"I'm fine," I spoke after the car had come to a stop and we had entered the secret passage. I eyed him pointedly. He blew out a sigh. "I swear."

"Alright, if you say so."

He got the key out and took a deep breath.

"Let's get what you need and then find someplace else to stay. Seven had called me several times a while ago. I'm sure he tried calling you too."

"My phone is off."
