Julietta looked around and saw no evidence of whomever the footprints belonged to.
“At least now I know that it is definitely a human being and not the wolf,” she declared into the emptiness immediately around her. The fog made it difficult to see far. She felt uneasy and decided to leave.
She still used the flashlight when she walked along the footpath, back to the road.
In the fog, Julietta made out the outline of a vehicle standing on the side of the road. She tentatively walked closer and was relieved to see that it was Emile’s car. She knocked on the window and he immediately unlocked the door on her side.
“You came back?” she asked in surprise.
“Yes, I thought I should,” Emile replied.
“Oh, today I am happy that you decided that,” Julietta declared as soon as she was seated.
“What’s different about today?” Emile asked as he closed up his homework book.
