Chapter 8: Needing a Witness

“I’m talking about you and Emile’s visit to the lake this afternoon,” Elliot answered in response to Julietta’s question.

“When did Emile tell you about that?” Julietta asked in shock. She could not believe that Emile had betrayed her trust.

“No, he did not tell me anything,” Elliot responded with his head down.

“Then, how do you know about the visit?” Julietta asked, facing him square on with a hand on her hip.

“I sort of overheard when you were talking,” Elliot replied shyly. “But please don’t be mad at me,” he pleaded.

“Why not, when you were blatantly eavesdropping?” Julietta asked indignantly.

“The two of you seemed to be having such an interesting conversation,” Elliot replied. “You both looked so intense,” he continued animatedly.

“You clearly don’t know your principles,” Julietta responded cheekily. “And just how much did you hear?” she asked.

“Well, I could tell you on our way there,” Elliot responded, smiling nervously.
