As we disembarked the carriage and walked through the gates to the inner courtyard, his Beta Luca approached with a cadre of soldiers at one side, a group of well dressed men at the other and a stack of scrolls under one arm.
“Our allied forces will reach the village at first light,” Luca said urgently.
“Right, we may have an unwelcome visitor in the village.” Erich said, giving his Beta a meaningful look.
Luca was alert enough to pass the scrolls under his arm to a diplomat by his side before silently nodding towards the soldiers who wasted no time shifting in front of us. I looked to Leena just beside me and noticed that her expression mirrored the shock of watching them become wolves right before our eyes.
He turned to me and made a show of kissing my hand. My breath caught in my throat as an electric warmth rushed over my body.
