Frightened, I reached over to help Erich only to stop short, frozen in my seat as he violently shifted, reflecting the fierceness of the powerful white wolf that had pinned me to the ground only a few days ago.
As he shifted, so did others and I noted a mixture of fur colors among the wolves growling around the table poised to jump and tear each other apart. I ducked down under the table and scrambled across to Leena who was shivering with fright in her chair.
I pulled her down to the floor and under the table with me clinging to her as I peeked out through the tablecloth for a path of escape. Wolves growled and broiled everywhere. Other than the white wolves that belonged with Erich, I couldn’t tell which ones were friend or faux.
