Chapter 33: His True Mate?

Preparing for the festival was a collaborative work between the palace and the merchants of the town. I managed to avoid seeing Erich’s mother through most of the days leading up to the festival. Until she decided to send for me to have tea in her sitting room.

When Nyla heard, she took extra special care to choose a light blue dress and silver jewelry for me to wear. She took her time when styling my hair to fall in dark waves over my shoulders and applying just a hint of peachy color to my eyes, cheeks, and lips.

When it came time for the collar to come over my throat, Nyla surprised me with a pale blue scarf that she draped around my neck a few times until the collar was concealed. I smiled my thanks when looking over the final results in the mirror.

When his mother opened the door to me, I was surprised to see that I was not the only human invited to tea. Leena and Lilith were already inside seated at a round table seated opposite each other.
