I awoke in Erich’s arms to the worst pain I’d ever experienced in my life ripping through my abdomen. I was quite certain that my screams reached beyond our seclusion and woke everyone in Fireseed.  


The guards rushed into our room as Erich worked to make me comfortable, helping me sit up and placing pillows behind my back for support. 


“Get the healer!” he ordered and they left promptly to do as told.


I looked at the enormity of my belly, now that it was time to give birth, and wondered how all of that was supposed to pass through me. When I asked how many babies I carried, the healer had said more than one and assured me it couldn't be more than four. 


The thought of carrying four babies was daunting enough but I had done it. But now, imagining myself pushing them out… 


“I think I’ve changed my mind,” I said with a nervous laugh that turned into another contraction induced scream.
