Chapter 43: Who We Used to Be

"I will never marry you, Leo. You are the most despicable human alive!" Sammy spat at the man standing imposingly in front of her.

"You will be my wife. I will fight to protect my possessions with everything that I have."

Sammy clenched her fists and pursed her lips. Had he just called her a possession? She belonged to no one and she didn't care who he was or his connections. She wouldn't be degraded to the point of being a mere possession.

"You must have misread me, Leo. You might assume that just because I am poor you will say, 'Jump' and I ask 'How high?' I am nobody's asset. I am not only good with carrying trays but I am a decent fighter. I too will fight you on this matter."

Leo scoffed and chuckled. "Really? You think you can fight me?" He asked as he stepped towards her.

His huge frame was arresting, compared to Sammy's tiny frame. She swallowed unsure of how to react. She couldn't move back as her back was already against the wall in the shelter.
